Content

  • History section: Expand, add references, and new material. Try to cover the 21st century. Some sources in History of manga article but also need other sources.
  • The Year 24 group and their followers: an outline of their achievements and how they influenced later shōjo manga. Might be a subsection of History.
  • Themes/Subgenres: A section that represents and describes the range and variety of shōjo manga, forestalling cliches about romance and girls with big eyes. Possible examples include angst (Peach Girl), sentai heroines (Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew), romance as self-discovery and self-reliance, female friendships (akogare), adventure (From Far Away), among others.
  • Stylistics: Opinions and information from verifiable sources about the kinds of layout, page design, and drawing styles of different shōjo mangaka.
  • Reception and Markets in Japan and elsewhere: data on the world-wide popularity of shōjo manga. Include data from ICv2 about the increase in shōjo manga sales in the US. Sources for other countries?
  • Social background of shōjo manga: feminism, changes in women's roles since WW2 and since the collapse of the bubble economy; the role of "shōjo culture" and of fashion (oshare) manga. Need verifiable sources and objective, NPOV summaries of different and contrasting viewpoints especially by Japanese writers.
  • YAOI/BL and their relationships to dōjinshi. Cite verifiable sources about whether or not YAOI is really part of shōjo manga. This section can be short, referring the reader to other entries.
  • Decide on images to use and on other topics to include.
