Move Page
[edit]The hospital spells its name Shaare Zedek Medical Center. The page needs to be moved accordingly. The "transliteration" appears in parentheses, but an institution has the right to choose its own spelling). I tried to move the page, but was blocked. Perhaps someone else can do it.--Gilabrand (talk) 10:32, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
- While the move is probably justified per WP:COMMONNAME (Shaare Zedek appears to be much more common), please keep in mind that there is an emerging movement on Wikipedia to keep away from 'official' names. WP:OFFICIAL and WP:OFFICIALNAMES are two pages in the works on the subject. -- Ynhockey (Talk) 16:29, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
The hospital's own website is not a reliable source??
[edit]Rami R, how on earth did you come up with the idea of claiming that the hospital's own website is not a reliable source? I am flabbergasted and laughing at the same time. I have not seen such a ridiculous argument ever since I joined wikipedia. --Piz d'Es-Cha (talk) 19:00, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- I'll repeat what I said in the edit summery: Please be civil; The official website cannot be used for statements such as "it was the first hospital in Israel ..." and "It serves about 70,000 patients annually". And I'll add to the edit summery: this is because the hospital has a clear interest to promote itself and these statements clearly promote the hospital. The mere existence of the departments is of-course not questioned and does not require a source other than the official website, but any information beyond that does need an independent source. - Hospitals do not lie about the number of patients they treat. These are simple statistics, and each hospital records these. Please write exactly which phrases you want sourced, and I'll get you the sources. In the meantime, I am removing the unnecessary 'unsourced' template. We'll just make a deal: you tell me which part of the information you want to have sourced, and I'll get it to you. As for the numbers, the only source is the hospital, and any other source (like the media) take its data directly from what the hospital's PR department tell them. Or do you think there is a reporter standing at the entrance to the ED 24/7 to write down how many patients they receive? --Piz d'Es-Cha (talk) 21:05, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
- It seems to me you're getting the better part of this deal, but I'll play along for the time being. I'll except your argument about the statistics. However,
- "In 2008, it was the first hospital in Israel to replace heart valves via cardiac catheterization." is not a simple statistic, and requires knowledge about what other hospitals do. 3rd party sources also confirm that this is important, and not just trivia.
- "The center is known as one of excellence." - Can you actually look me in the eye and tell me that the hospital's site is reliable for this?
- "It served about 60,000 patients in 2006, a number that continues to grow." - Really? Continues to grow? If this is just a simple statistic, why not just state the number directly?

- Good, I will look for these, and get them to you within a few days, I promise. Regarding the significance of replacing cardiac valves via cardiac catherization: I studied medicine for a year (before deciding to quit because I wanted to come to Israel), and studied a lot on my own since, especially about cardiology. I can assure you that replacing cardiac valves via catheterization is indeed quite a feat and that most hospitals do not do this. Similarly, SZMC was one of the first hospitals in Israel to widely perform its Coronary artery bypass graft surgeries off-pump (ie, without the use of an external cardiopulmonary bypass), also quite a special thing. Again, as I said, I'll get you sources during the coming days. Won't manage today, since I am very busy. Now further, if there are any specific points, and I am (yet) unable to bring you sources, then please consider place small "reference needed" tags inside the text, instead of pasting a big "unsourced" template on the whole section. This would be a more appropriate way to handle such situations. --Piz d'Es-Cha (talk) 11:25, 1 May 2009 (UTC)
