Two versions one page?[edit]

I was confused by this page and thought there was no cast listing, because in the main section is the cast list of the second remade version. This is somewhat confusing for people who are not diehard wiki makers, on a usability level! I suspect others coming here will often have this problem. Thank you for the reversion, as I didn't want to duplicate data. However: I suggest splitting the page into one for the original version and one for the new version, so the cast listing can go where it belongs, and not confuse visitors to the page looking for the original cast. Updating article[edit]

I'm going to start boldly updating this article. Revert if you think there needs to be consensus for anything I update. It's episodic: each of the six episodes has the normal complement of opening and closing titles, but the total running time for just the episodes totals 106 min; adding on the introduction and additional closing credits comes to just over 109 min. This is broken down as follows:

00:14:10 Part Five

Clips from Shada[edit]

I know from an attached documentary to the 25th anniversary release of The Five Doctors that the all-famous punting scene was used when he was snatched from time. AFAIK only three Shada clips were subsequently used, and all in The Five Doctors as originally broadcast: the punting scene; a still from a scene in Professor Chronotis' room (shown on the time scoop monitor); and the scene where the Doctor is lying at the bottom of a gate and then joins Romana in the TARDIS. Just to add to Redrose64's info I think that there were two different stills used for when they were trapped in the time scoop. One in the original broadcast and VHS release and a different one in the subsequent VHS and DVD special editions. Ive always enjoyed the scene of him running into the TARDIS as one end of his scarf catches in the door and dematerialises with the rest of the TARDIS. Dirk Gently[edit]

The suggestion that Shada is the basis for Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency seems tenuous at best, and it lacks a source. Should it be removed? I only know the plot from the TV series so I should not do the removing. ZarhanFastfire (talk) 05:16, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The TV series Dirk Gently deviates significantly from the book Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency. There are certainly a lot of plot elements from Shada which Douglas Adams - who wrote both - incorporated into Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - St Cedd's College; Professor Chronotis; the room which is actually a time machine. --Redrose64 (talk) 07:53, 13 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Synopsis[edit]

As a long time fan of the "classic" series I am unhappy about the flippant tone of the story synopsis as of 17th July 2015. I am therefore going to amend it slightly to remove the "would-be conquerors of the universe" phrases. I wish my fellow fans would remember that this show was aimed promarily at children and megalomaniacs such as Skagra do make suitable baddies. There is no need to trash the story by trivialising it with silly language.

While not commenting on any changes (and I wish you well with them) it is a misconception to say the show was "aimed at children" by then. Yes that had been the original writ for the programme but that was gone by the time of the Baker era. Else why would Leela by so scantily clad and Mary Whitehouse complain so much. And to answer your questions Marnette. This is my understanding of the matters: (1) Leela's clothing was designed to keep the dad's interested at a time when such things were considered acceptable. (She wasn't always dressed like that though, it should be said!) Britbox version[edit]

Just got to Shada on Britbox and delighted to see Tom live-action in costume and character for the final scene (a fair trade for losing the BBC video intro!) and thought it was worthy of note...
