Term start[edit]

@Panam2014: today Abbasi has been named as the interim Prime Minister but he is yet to get a vote of confidence from the lower house of Pakistani Parliament before he is sworn in. Most likely he will sworn in next week therefore term not started yet. --Saqib (talk) 12:33, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Saqib: please add this with sources. After, maybe there are no confidence vote for acting prime minister or it is only symbolic. --Panam2014 (talk) 12:35, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Source is cited. See 4th source (The Hindu). --Saqib (talk) 12:38, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib:And who will exercise power in the meantime, knowing that Abbasi is himself an interim? If not, what will happen during the next 45 days? --Panam2014 (talk) 12:45, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually Abbas will take over as interim prime minister from next week and would serve for 45 days only. Shehbaz Sharif is the actual successor but he will be first elect to the lower house of parliament, and then sworn in as Prime Minister. I think within next 2 months during which Abbasi will exercise power. I hope this clears? --Saqib (talk) 12:50, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib:But legally, Abassi is interim or the sources say that because within the party, they agree that he does not stay long in office? For the rest, the position will remain vacant for another week? --Panam2014 (talk) 13:00, 29 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Acting, interim or permanent PK[edit]

@Mar4d, Everyking, and Saqib: It seems to me that legally, it is neither "acting" nor "interim" PM. Indeed, its mode of designation is regular and the PPP will even propose an opposition candidate to face him in two days. The fact that it will remain that 45 days in power is linked to a device combine. Thus, when Sharif is elected, he will present his resignation. --Panam2014 (talk) 13:16, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Panam2014: Most sources agree that he is an interim PM. This fact is not even disputed. He is only intended to be a placeholder who will effectively fill in the post, until Shehbaz Sharif contests elections from Nawaz Sharif's vacated constituency, wins (predictably) and is elected PM by the National Assembly. All in all, it will take 40 to 50 days. Until then, Abbasi is simply an interim or acting PM. Mar4d (talk) 13:37, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Mar4d: No, it does not mean anything. Only the constitutional aspect counts. This is proved by the fact that if by a miracle, he fails to get elected, the PPP candidate will remain well over 45 days in power. So he is not acting. --Panam2014 (talk) 15:09, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think I can agree.. there’s no such thing as an “interim” Prime Minister in our constitution. Abbasi is being installed by the members of lower house and would have full powers. The reason why news media referring the term "interim PM" for Abbasi is because Nawaz Sharif proposed as such. Incase if Shehbaz Sharif fails to secure National Assembly seat, obviously Abbasi will have to remain as Prime Minister. --Saqib (talk) 19:03, 30 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Minister for Defence Production[edit]

Since last year there is a mention on this bio that Abbasi held the cabinbet protoflio of Defence Production in PML (N)-PPP led coalition government in 2008, based on DAWN news story dated March 2008 [1]. But last week when I looked at the official website of Ministry for Defence Production, it doesn't verified the claim. On the contrary the website notes Rana Tanveer Hussain, who held the portfolio from March to May 2008 [2]. And then I found some DAWN news stories dated May 2008 which also notes Rana Tanveer Hussain as Minister for Defence Production and Abbasi only held the portfolio of Commerce.[3] [4]

Following the announcement of Abbasi as interim Prime Minister, several news publication emerged claiming that Abbasi held the Defence Production portfolio in 2008. [5] [6] [7] But because the Defence Production portfolio was mentioned on this bio since last year, this seems dubious to me and apparently news publication took the claims from this bio. So what to do with this? --Saqib (talk) 14:51, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If it is erroneous information, as you noted above, then it should be corrected (assuming if it hasn't yet). Mar4d (talk) 15:00, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
It has been removed from the bio's infobox, but I have left it in the "political career" section but marked it dubious. --Saqib (talk) 15:02, 31 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I removed this untrue claim, despite now we have plenty of RS to backup it. --Saqib (talk) 08:46, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

18th, or 24th?[edit]

Is Abbasi 18th Prime Minister, as most news media reporting, or 19th as mentioned in this table or 24th as claimed on this bio? --Saqib (talk) 15:30, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

While Radio Pakistan claiming him as 28th Prime Minister. [8] --Saqib (talk) 15:50, 1 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@GoodDay: lets discuss before you add 14th? --Saqib (talk) 10:35, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Jibran1998: Care to discuss here before making changes? --Saqib (talk) 14:50, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: I apologize, I did not see the talk page. It should be changed to 18th, excluding the care takers and giving a neutral number to those who held office more than once Jibran1998 (talk) 14:57, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Make sense. I was thinking the same. Feel free to revert my edit. --Saqib (talk) 14:58, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It would be better if we can source the numbering to reliable sources than going with our own ideas. How does reliable sources describe him? Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 15:09, 28 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewer: Royroydeb (talk · contribs) 14:44, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Assalam alaykum warahamatullah wabarakatuh. I will be reviewing this article and will post my comments soon. RRD (talk) 14:44, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well written[edit]

  • Weasel words : "According to some reports", "received his early education", "The cabinet was criticised"
  • WP:Words to watch:"gaining a master's degree", "across different projects", "various energy projects", "Later he became","significant time", "Assembly shortly after being voted ""Reportedly, PML (N) leadership""Except few", "most of the cabinet members"
  • WP:Puffery: "wealthy businessman", "wealthy and political family"
  • A paragraph should start with Shahid Khaqan Abbasi being referred as "Abbasi" and in the later sentences the pronoun "he" should be used. This is violated in the Early Political Career section.

RRD (talk) 05:54, 13 August 2017 (UTC) Since there a three reports any one of them should be named. Moreover there are two "later"s in the article. RRD (talk) 14:47, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

There is problem with the text about plane hijacking. The use of words "allegdly" , "accused" are objectionable. The article also needs to clarify why Abbasi refused to stay in the secratariat. RRD (talk) 19:31, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
As per WP:WTA. "alleged and accused are appropriate"...but however I have removed the terms, see here . also i have removed the line about Abbasi stay in the PM house, because it is unconfirmed report. --Saqib (talk) 11:15, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There is a mention of pressured in the plane hijackibg case. @Saqib:. Also the last sentence of his visit to Saudi Arabia needs to be elaborated. Unfortunately, even after the passing of one week, the issues were not addresed. RRD (talk) 15:12, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
What's wrong with " pressured in the plane hijacking case"? Details of visit to Saudi Arabia have been expanded a bit. As you can read here, there is not much to add. Which other issues were not addressed? Most of the issues highlighted above were fixed. --Saqib (talk) 15:37, 26 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Who presurrised is not clear. Also I did some of the changes which you were expected to do. RRD (talk) 16:59, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
RRD: Fixed. I genuinely appreciate your assistance. --Saqib (talk) 17:10, 27 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In many of the paragraphs, there is no pronoun and the word Abbasi is repeated over again. RRD (talk) 14:39, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
:This issue has been fixed [[9]. --Saqib (talk) 15:25, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Broad in its coverage[edit]

  • The jobs which he did in US and Saudi Arabia must be specified.
  • What is the role of information of Abbasi's ownership of an airline doing in early political career?
  • A politician's article is incomplete without a section of his views on various issues. (Check APJ Abdul Kalam, Siddiqullah Chowdhury, Mohsin Raza for reference)
  • More information needs to be put in for his tenure as a minister of petroleum and commerce. RRD (talk) 14:47, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Royroydeb: I am unable to find a single source which can confirm the nature of jobs he did in US and in Saudi Arabia.
I think a two line para indicating what Abbasi did following his first unsuccessful election would be better suit in political career section to give a chronology of his life. I've no issue if this information move to any other section though.
Again, i am unable to find sources which talk about his views. Recently Ishaq Dar bio was able to gain GA status even without having information of his political views.
I have added some information during his tenure as Petroleum Minister, however we don't have anything to all about his tenure as Commerce Minister because he held the position for a brief time - a couple of months. --Saqib (talk) 17:00, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry I cannot help. The article cannot pass this criteria if it only says about his political career and personal life. (Even non GA articles also exclusively speak about these only, then how can this article be different from them). Any other aspects of his life and career needs to be added. Also the pre political career is small for a GA. RRD (talk) 18:50, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Royroydeb: Noted, but if we don't have anything else to add, how could I possibly expand the bio? I have tried my best to make this bio as comprehensive as possible but I am afraid I couldn't find anything else which worth adding here or any RS talking about his views. Same for small sized pre-political career. As per GA criteria, the candidate article addresses the main aspects of the topic and stays focused on the topic and I think this bio is both focussed on the subject and do contains main aspects. --Saqib (talk) 12:03, 20 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Going through other articles and reviews extensively, I can conclude that this article passes this criteria just by a margin. RRD (talk) 04:56, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Royroydeb: With no intention to offend you, don't you think you're getting too tough on this nom. After-all, this is not a FA candidate. This bio is as detailed as a GA should be because it covers the main aspects of the topic. I hope by time the article will include the missing part as well. In any case, I respect your opinion and look forward to your final review. --Saqib (talk) 15:14, 29 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
No, the article was reviewed according to the GA criteria only. To be frank, the article should have been quick failed as it is horribly written, but still I gave chance. RRD (talk) 14:35, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Do you want me to get its copyedit done? --Saqib (talk) 15:28, 30 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Peer review and copyedit are dond before nominating. Currently after the edits, it is fine. RRD (talk) 16:57, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality[edit]

An election result is reffered as poor. The last sentence of this article is an opinion of the newspaper article's author which is stated as a fact. Also the use of the word loyalist also makes the article biased as the media oftem unjustifiably uses the word. RRD (talk) 19:35, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please see the changes here. --Saqib (talk) 11:28, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Other comments[edit]

@Royroydeb: I was able to fix most of the points and the changes can be viewed here. But I am unable to figure out what to replace "According to some reports".. because at-least 3 different publications are cited. @Mar4d: would you be able to review my changes and improve it further? --Saqib (talk) 17:27, 13 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: Since I am doing a GA review and not a peer review, matters related to this article must be discussed here so that it can be used for further reference. RRD (talk) 14:03, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: I have completed doing an initial round of the review. You are to address the issues within a week that is within 26th August. RRD (talk) 19:37, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I will recheck all the references and do a final review soon. RRD (talk) 04:56, 25 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Minister for Energy[edit]

Initially it was reported that Abbasi will head the newly created Ministry of Energy which has two divisions (petroleum and power) however a few months later Awais Leghari was appointed as Minister for Power division (as Minister in charge) so assuming Abbasi does not holds the portfolio of Minister for Energy alone, and is minister for petroleum division, I have made some changes to the infobox today and replaced Minister for Energy with Minister incharge of petroleum division. Meanwhile Abbasi in his capacity as PM is minister in-charge of various other divisions such as cabinet, establishment et cetera so I am curios should we get rid of slots in the infobox pertaining to minister in charge because it doesn't make sense to add all of them but I am not sure about Petroleum division. @Panam2014 and Mar4d: what do you guys think ? --Saqib (talk) 14:19, 9 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Saqib: hi, I think we should remove minister for Energy from the infobox as successor of Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources. --Panam2014 (talk) 21:42, 4 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's already removed @Panam2014:. --Saqib (talk) 13:26, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: no. "Preceded by Asim Hussain

Succeeded by Himself (Energy)" --Panam2014 (talk) 17:56, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Panam2014: What should "Himself (Energy)" be replaced with? --Saqib (talk) 18:09, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Saqib: Himself (petroleum division) and Leghari (power). --Panam2014 (talk) 18:14, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Made the changes. --Saqib (talk) 18:28, 5 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I feel...[edit]

...we should trim down the "Policies and initiatives" section to only include major things. What's your take on it SheriffIsInTown? --Saqib (talk) 14:38, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I think we can cut it down to only include real achievements instead of each and every directive without an end result. We can also include the projects he started but could not complete due to lack of time so if they get completed during a future government, folks should know at least who actually started them! Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 14:59, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Right. Would you take a plunge here? I will certainly join in. --Saqib (talk) 15:02, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Don't have bandwidth at this point, maybe later most probably after the elections sometime if I have to do it! ☺ Sheriff | ☎ 911 | 15:18, 27 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
