Aramean or Assyrian[edit]

NO source tells us anything about Shamoun being an Assyrian. We got 1 source telling us he was aramean.Dejwono (talk) 20:20, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

True, he was Syriac. Want me to change this? --Diyairaniyanim (talk) 12:08, 28 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am from one of the families mentioned in this article, and I can guarantee you that we see ourselves as nothing else than Assyrians — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hemliganonym (talkcontribs) 19:58, 4 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I am the great granddaughter of the man himself, we do not see ourselves as Assyrians. My great grandfather talked about Assyrians as not being one of them. We are Syriac-Aramaics (Suryoye) and nothing else. In time I will update this article with CORRECT information about my great grandfather. Rosadbehaydo (talk) 14:38, 11 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Syriac-Aramean[edit]

The hero SH Haydo was Syriac-Aramean and an Assyrianist as claimed by the ideologues. Assyrianism and the so-called Assyrian identity is a modern invention that date to around 1870. We hail from Tur Abdidine and throughout history, we were known as Syrians, old Syrians or Syriacs. Tur Abbdine was an old Aramean kingdom. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.227.132.60 (talk) 06:23, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

They were known as „Syrian“ as you say, which comes from the word of „Assyrian“ so it’s the same thing, a big part of the people from Tur Abdin identify as Assyrian and have always been called „suroye“ like the eastern Syriac speakers calling themselves „suraye“ these words simply means „Syrian“, and Syrian comes from the term Assyrian. Tur Abdin was an old Aramean kingdom and also a part of the Assyrian empire, arameans and Assyrians are synonyms today, even back than aramean tribes and Assyrian tribes intermingled with eachother and that’s why the Syriac-Aramaic languge contains so much Akkadian words. Best for the article to add both names, to avoid confusion since this people have many names to identify with. 2003:E1:8709:D600:3822:1550:C9C7:D4E6 (talk) 10:23, 30 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
