Afd?

[edit]

Is it worth the effort to take this to Afd? My experience there, with the most non notable schools, tells me it is a waste of time. Thoughts? --Stormbay (talk) 17:56, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It could just be merged/re-directed to the locality article which happens to most schools of this type. In this case it is Changning District by the look of it. Camaron | Chris (talk) 18:03, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why do you think this school is non-notable? Don't forget that in communist countries middle schools are the equivalent of secondary schools/high schools elsewhere. There are only a handful of Chinese schools with articles on Wikipedia, especially in proportion to the size of the population. (Just look at the thousands and thousands of American school articles in comparison, the vast majority of which are probably far less notable than this school.) We should really be encouraging all efforts at creating these articles to counter the inherent systemic bias. Dahliarose (talk) 20:41, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't, but merge/re-direct is a fair compromise against deletion, particularly as I have doubts this article would survive AfD. If the school is equivalent to a high school it may well be notable, so should ideally be kept on the WP:POTENTIAL principle, but Wikipedia guidelines and many editors demand evidence of passing WP:N, and there does not seem to be much evidence available at the moment to do this and make sure the article is kept unfortunately. I would like to resolve the notability tag one way or the other. I would expect that the number of schools just like this one is enormous. Without some additional material and sources, there is no way to measure the notability. If a middle school in China is equivalent to a high school in North America, then it could be considered notable on that basis. The article probably remains as we now see it. --Stormbay (talk) 21:36, 18 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
