This article is almost entirely a copy of the quartet's homepage. It therefore is written to promote the group (major neutrality issues) and could also violate copyright. I would have deleted the entire article and flagged it for copyright violation, but I see no indication of copyright on the quartet's site. -Phi*n!x 19:02, 23 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Editing of Shanghai Wiki

[edit]

The current version of the Shanghai Quartet Wikipedia page is written like an advertisement. Most of the information is pulled directly from the quartet’s homepage, which acts to promote the ensemble. This is a problem because Wikipedia calls for pages that provide a neutral point of view, acting as articles would in an encyclopedia. Wikipedia also requires that information posted respects all copyright laws. Since much of the posted information is directly copied from the quartet’s homepage, this page runs the risk of violating these laws. Leaving the page as is creates two problems: it puts Wikipedia’s reputation at risk for having a non-neutral article posted and it potentially violates copyright regulations. These problems can be solved if the page is updated. A new article must reflect a neutral point of view and must include only original writing or quoted material from reliable sources.

My plan is to update the current entry and present it as an article instead of an advertisement. I will use information from the quartet’s homepage, several newspaper articles, and the college websites of both universities where the quartet has held residence to create an original entry. The article will include information about the quartet’s history, members and discography. All biographical information will follow Wikipedia’s guidelines on posting material about living people. In addition to alleviating the advertisement and copyright problems, the entry will also provide a more in-depth description of the quartet that can be helpful when using the page as a resource for research or general interest. The information will also be better organized with headings and sub-sections to facilitate easier reading. Violab (talk) 21:50, 20 October 2009 (UTC) Violab 10/20/09[reply]
