Rewording re name origins[edit]

In addition to reorganizing the part containing the following

  • Mac Seanlaoich meaning 'son of Seanlaoch'
  • Nic Sheanlaoich meaning 'daughter of Seanlaoch'
  • Ó Seanlaoich meaning 'descendent of Seanlaoch (male)'
  • Ní Sheanlaoich meaning 'descendent of Seanlaoch (female)'

i have taken the initiative of construing one of my predecessors as editor as having obscured the last two items, probably by changing the format without appropriate rewording, and rewording to something that's somewhat ambiguous. Specifically, each of the last two has at least three plausible constructions:

  • Ó Seanlaoich meaning 'descendent of Seanlaoch (male)':
    1. descendent of Seanlaoch via one of his sons
    2. descendent of Seanlaoch via an unbroken line of his male descendants
    3. male descendant of Seanlaoch

  • Ní Sheanlaoich meaning 'descendent of Seanlaoch (female)':
    1. descendent of Seanlaoch via one of his daughters
    1. descendent of Seanlaoch via a line including at least one of his female descendants
    1. female descendant of Seanlaoch

In each case, i've guessed that the first possibility is correct, and reflected that in my edit on the SIA.

Hey JerzyA, when you made the edit to clarify this, you added the template {{?}}, but I don't think it did what you intended. I've made an edit that removes the template and puts the "see talk page" messages in HTML comments. I considered replacing it with {{citation needed}}, but I'm pretty sure disambiguations aren't supposed to have citations. eπi (talk | contribs) 23:23, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
