Name
[edit]I've added a "meaning" for the Irish place name, but, given the context, "The Old one" looks a bit strange. I guess the town was named after the river (I've commented this out from the bracketed translation for the time being) but wonder was it meant ironically? Nice joke if it was. Anyone know? --sony-youthpléigh 20:57, 16 September 2007 (UTC)
Status
[edit]"Because of its size, the town is managed at a local government level by the Shannon Town Commission, as opposed to a Town Council or Urban District Council."
No, its administered by a Town Council just like every other town with its own local government, see [1]. This was not always the case, for a long time the council had to share authority with SFADCO which had essentially developed the town. [2] for details of the transfer. Neither Town Commissioners or Urban District Councils exist in Irish law any more following the Local Government Act 2001 --Rdd 20:23, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit]the extensions construction has been finished since 2018. why does the article still say its due to undergo construction? Vincentmethinks (talk) 13:45, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- When you have independent sources, you can edits the outdated part. The Banner talk 13:57, 16 September 2023 (UTC)
- is "i go there" an independent source? Vincentmethinks (talk) 20:18, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- No, as sources must also be published, in any form. But Shannon Parish will, in my humble opinion, do. The Banner talk 20:38, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- what about the schools website? Vincentmethinks (talk) 21:51, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- That parish website is already on the line. The school website is clearly involved with the school. The Banner talk 22:00, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- but the schools website would still be a viable source for citation that the extension was built, yes? Vincentmethinks (talk) 22:06, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- No. The Banner talk 22:22, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
