Shapash/Shemesh[edit]

Kurt Noll seems to indicate that the two names were interchangeable at times, within Canaanite religion itself. Not two different deities of opposing gender, as indicated in article. Does anybody know how to harmonise the info? Arminden (talk) 14:53, 9 January 2016 (UTC)ArmindenArminden (talk) 14:53, 9 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

How does one change the heading of an article?

The title of this article should be either Shapash_(Canaanite_goddess) or Shapshu_(Canaanite_goddess). Both are Romanizations and transliterations from the Ugaritic, especially the tables telling the Myth of Ba'al. I think Shapshu may be the more current scholarly form.

Shemesh is NOT a Canaanite deity. It is the name of a Mesopotamian god - not Canaanite - not a goddess. And it is a name mentioned in the Bible (Old Testament)/Tanakh - not a Canaanite pagan text.

Falconfly Addition[edit]

Can you please provide a reference for this addition? ", was the Mesopotamian male equivalent of the female Canaanite Shapash, while the Arabian Shams is a putative descendent or related theology wise" Squatch347 (talk) 13:26, 17 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move 12 August 2023[edit]

ShapashShapshu – The restoration "Shapash" is based only on the eastern Semitic Shamash; in NW semitic the pronounciation was "šamšu", and "šapšu" in Ugarit and sometines in Alalaḫ. see Mary E. Buck, The Amorite Dynasty of Ugarit, Brill, 2020, p. 239 פעמי-עליון (talk) 21:42, 12 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

A week has past, and there are no objections, so I hope it's OK I close thedisscutions and move the page. פעמי-עליון (talk) 20:51, 20 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
