Biographical Information Source

[edit]

The biographical Information comes from his Book "Caverns Measureless to Man". For a quote about him being a pioneer maybe the NSSCDS (National Speleological Society, Cave Diving Section) has some info? 84.129.105.221 10:18, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The information from this article would helpful, and provide a completion that Sheck himself would have probably appreciated: New Scientist Tech Article

The article contains "often credited with developing the 'Octopus'" which he either did or did not do. It seems that this general feeling should be less ambiguous. Synapse001 12:11, 23 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

--Arithmetic Problem--

The article claims: 'He died aged 45 on April 6, 1994 while attempting to descend to a depth of over 300 metres (1,000 feet) in a cenote called Zacatón in Mexico[1] , he was about 10 meters away from the bottom of the cenote. His body was recovered only because he had hooked his arms in the descent line, perhaps to sort out gas issues. His wrist-mounted dive computer read a maximum depth of 268 metres (879 feet).'

So, if he had reached a maximum depth of 268 metres, and was 10 meters away from the bottom, then the bottom was a maximum of 278 meters depth. So, how was he attempting to descend below the bottom of the cenote?
