"Dark Waters"[edit]

This article says she appears in "Dark Waters" (2005) - can anyone verify this? IMDB doesn't have this and I only see this as a source. Athf1234 19:32, 23 July 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Wendyshining.jpg[edit]

Image:Wendyshining.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Mental health rumor[edit]

I have removed the rumor about her being on a mental ward, I could find no references to this whatsoever, however I did find film references to hospitals and wonder if there is some confusion over a film role by her. I think until there is some proof of her being in any kind of hospital the rumor should not stay in the main article. AmyNelson 05:46, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

On the IMDB boards for her, there's talk about her being in a mental ward in Blanco, Texas. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.70.153.75 (talk) 01:47, August 21, 2007 (UTC)

One fellow on IMDB asked about this and could get no confirmation from anyone else.
--WickerGuy (talk) 16:11, 30 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
well, her appearance on Dr. Phil, subsequent hospitalization, and refusal to sign treatment papers resulting in her leaving after three days squashes any 'rumor' now . . .

Picture[edit]

I think this is a fairly good one. not sure about the copyrighting though.♠♦Д narchistPig♥♣ (talk) 02:31, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well she definetly deserves a better one than the one up now that's half out of focus. I'll try to find something later 81.170.157.91 (talk) 19:40, 17 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Steel Magnolias?[edit]

I don't think it's been "confirmed" that Shelley Duvall will be in a revival of Steel Magnolias. I don't even think it's been confirmed that there's to be a new production of Steel Magnolias. Dosbears (talk) 23:01, 11 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What's Going On With Her Lately?[edit]

Isn't it odd for there to be so little information on her for the past 7 or 8 years? What's going on with her? She seems like too important an actress to just totaly disappear like that. Can't anyone find out what her current situation is? Lafong (talk) 01:51, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She made a standing-room-only appearance at a library in Texas. Her friend in Blanco, Jeannie Ralston (The Unlikely Lavender Queen), [1] calls her "reclusive". Pepso2 (talk) 06:31, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It's a little worse than that, according to the cited article. Shelley Duvall#cite_note-5 Why doesn't someone include the reports of her acting crazy? OK, I know it's the Enquirer, but then why quote the interview at all? --70.142.57.205 (talk) 00:44, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I removed the following, since not a single one of the Enquirer quotes gives attribution to a person who is named. The Duvall quote could be ten years old for all we know. And no need to devote any space to a false rumor or that which is "unknown". Pepso2 (talk) 01:03, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The exact reason for her lack of professional activity since 2002 is unknown, but in an interview from the August 3, 2009 issue of the National Enquirer, she was quoted as saying, "I would love to go back to acting if it was the right role."[1] Earlier in 2009, it was rumored she would be playing the role of "Clairee Belcher" in an August 2009 Off Broadway revival of Steel Magnolias, but this rumor was proven false when the production failed to materialize.

Hi guys just wanted to add that there's no source material indicating that Jeannie Ralston is her friend. I also want to suggest deleting the "('Unlikely lavender Queen')"as it is extraneous and self-promoting. Thoughts?

Also, I just went to Jeannie Ralston's website and it appears she no longer lives in Blanco. She apparently lives in Mexico now. 108.83.62.19 (talk) 03:17, 18 February 2011 (UTC) fredottman[reply]

Jennie Ralston's not a Reliable Source. HammerFilmFan (talk) 17:13, 22 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Well-written article but needs more citations[edit]

Once citations are in their appropriate places this could page nominated as a good article. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Avario87 (talkcontribs) 13:34, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DEAD?![edit]

Resolved

I can find nothing to corroborate her dying today, and the links provided are to a newspaper article from 1977. You'd think a regular Robin Williams collaborator dying so soon after he did would generate more press if it were legit. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.203.180.84 (talk) 00:19, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That was vandalism. The vandal has been blocked. - SummerPhD (talk) 00:31, 14 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Gofundme[edit]

I'm going to remove the part about Vivian Kubrick's gofundme. It was canceled shortly after being set up,[2] so doesn't seem relevant here. Kendall-K1 (talk) 15:00, 28 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

less, uh, horrifying photograph[edit]

under the "personal life" section -- anybody have any bones to pick about me removing this image until another, better, fair-use one emerges? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eetthhaann (talkcontribs) 17:35, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It's actually not in the Personal life section, but I'm going to move it there. I don't find it horrifying and would rather keep it. Kendall-K1 (talk) 23:57, 8 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That is a terrible, unfocused amateur photo and should be removed and/or replaced. It's awful. 98.194.39.86 (talk) 20:00, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. It looks like she has four rows of teeth. Room-237 (talk) 20:51, 3 Nov 2017 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.94.137.129 (talk)
If you're horrifying looking, don't blame the camera. Don't hate the player, hate the game... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.183.60.250 (talk) 21:10, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

In popular culture[edit]

Noticing there's no "in popular culture" section. this seems relevant so many decades on, as there have been plenty of allusions and projects done around/about her and her influence? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8001:6901:8084:C932:96C4:1D5C:F8 (talk) 13:02, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

More Altman[edit]

This article is a rambling mess, and it relies much too heavily on exploitative content. How about a LOT more material about her brilliant work with Robert Altman?! 2600:1700:6AE5:2510:0:0:0:46 (talk) 17:44, 22 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
