Merge from Mooroopna

[edit]

203.37.150.24 (talk · contribs) put a merge tag on Mooroopna, Victoria to propose merging it into Shepparton. Do locals generally regard Mooroopna as part of Shepparton? Note that most suburbs of capital cities such as Melbourne and Sydney each have their own article. --Scott Davis Talk 08:25, 17 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I had a feeling it might be more appropriate to write a history of the rivalry between the two towns, rather than merge them. --Scott Davis Talk 09:19, 18 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
no merge this has been a controversial local issue since I was a boy. DISEman 15:12, 16 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality Concerns

[edit]

The article seems to read like a tourism and business advert. Lines such as the following particularly offend me:

  • "Manufacturing industry, such as Furphy Engineering, have evolved to cater for the needs of local primary producers."
  • "café which has a great variety of foods."

I believe that statements like these should be removed. Sheppman 14:14, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Then remove them!. I tend to agree that the last is a particularly bad example of town boosting. I would encorage you to be bold and get stuck into editing anything that you think needs improving. Not every edit needs to be discussed beforhand and if others disagree with an edit it can always be restored should consensus lean that way. -- Mattinbgn\ talk 22:52, 19 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unsupported claims of LGA and population rankings

[edit]

"Shepparton is the tenth most populated inland city of Australia". This was uncited and listed a number of cities some of which had a smaller population and some of which were not technically inland. Have removed this until someone can provide a decent citation for it.

"The City of Greater Shepparton is the fifth largest within Victoria with an estimated population of 50,373." Firstly, which is is largest by - population or size ? Because by population, it is much smaller than the vast majority of Melbourne's LGAs. The ABS link also did not support this claim either by size or population.--Biatch (talk) 02:23, 26 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shepparton-Mooroopna or just Shepparton

[edit]

The article appears to be about Shepparton-Mooroopna, the urban centre as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics statistical area (as opposed to the City of Greater Shepparton or the locality Shepparton) ? However the 2011 Census does not appear to recognise Shepparton-Mooroopna as a city. --Biatch (talk) 04:39, 29 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Unfounded claim about multiculturalism removed

[edit]

I removed the following statement:

"It is sometimes suggested that the multiculturalism in Shepparton is a Social experiment to see if the diversity of races and religions can be present without inflicting problems, however this has dramatically increased crime levels and Shepparton now has one of the highest unemployment rates in the state".

Reference http://m.theage.com.au/victoria/rolling-with-the-punches-20120915-25zf7.html

After reading through the reference, the above claim is not mentioned in the article at all so I thought it was unfounded to relate a "diversity of race and religions" with "dramatically increased crime levels...." — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aham925925 (talkcontribs) 11:11, 4 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
