Genre

[edit]

Regarding the change made to the genre, NRMLS WLCM RCRDS self-desribe their genre as electro in Calgary's BeatRoute magazine. And again in Calgary's FFWD Weekly. I recognize that the electro article is rather weak and the dance-punk article is stronger in contrast but I don't believe dance-punk adequately defines their genre. I'm going to switch it back to electro on the main page unless there is any disagreement. I'll be doing the same to NRMLS WLCM. Msoron 06:27, 4 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure I see why it has to be an either/or situation; it would be perfectly valid to say "electro/dance-punk" since both genres do apply. I don't think Wikipedia's bottom line rule is to necessarily take a band's own self-description of its musical genre as the final word, especially since a lot of bands these days tend to use self-invented microgenre terms that would never actually merit a Wikipedia article. I'm not objecting to your change, because it's certainly true that they fit the electro description; I just wonder why it has to be one term or the other, when the label "dance-punk" does also have relevance to what Shout Outx4 are doing. Good point, actually. In retrospect I was perhaps looking at it with an either/or perspective. The addition of both would probably be best, despite my reservations. Msoron 06:58, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion

[edit]

I'd strongly recommend that certain speedy-happy editors learn to recognize the vast difference between "non-notable" and "well, I've never heard of them, harrumph harrumph". This is not a band that qualifies as non-notable by any stretch of the imagination; they're one of the most heavily hyped bands on the Canadian indie rock scene right now. Airplay on CBC Radio 3, in fact, singlehandedly vitiates non-notability; airplay on a national radio network is explicitly spelled out in WP:MUSIC as, in and of itself, a criterion for an automatic keep. Sweaty dance pit

[edit]

I would also 'strongly' recommend that others not pop in opinions on the quality of the dance pit. This is wikipedia, not a home page. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.80.113.127 (talk) 17:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
