I'd like a chance to stubify this. Andrewa 06:57, 16 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Stubify a redirect? Uh... --Ihope127 8 July 2005 17:09 (UTC)

Can someone if that summary is accurate? I just don't see how someone could have a plot synopsis already. -- Anonymous 25 June 1:12

The summary cites it's source as a fansite, so I believe we should say it's a speculated summary. Everyone okay with me making that edit?--Slappy.McGee 17:30, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I've removed the plot. Wikipedia centers on facts, not anticipating rumors. If someone finds a plot and has a source confirming this, then the plot should be allowed. Until we know what's the exact plot, we shouldn't add any plot ideas to the article. If anyone challenges me on this, they can put in their opinions on my talk page. - Raditzu

I've removed this:

  • The use of "the Third" in the title instead of keeping with the numerical continuity of the series titles is presumably a reference to Blackadder the Third.

because it's unsourced and it could clearly be from anywhere. Sum0 17:33, 6 July 2006 (UTC)

Can someone please verify the list of "Confirmed cast"? I removed Avril Lavigne since no one can seem to confirm her as being in this movie. See also Talk:Avril Lavigne. --Nabber00 21:03, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Cleaning up

Okay, I've gone through this page and killed the trivia, pulled out the trailer recaps, and made it more like the other movie pages out there. Oy. I deleted some images, since there's not enough text to support it yet. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 20:30, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

I've re-deleted the trailer. This is NOT needed! We just need the plot. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 02:56, 4 January 2007 (UTC)
I've also removed Zooey Deschanel from the actor list - Neither her, nor her purported 'Little Mermaid' character come up in any news search I've done. If someone can find it, cite it. -- Ipstenu (talk|contribs) 01:25, 8 January 2007 (UTC)

If you look at Zoe Deschanel's wiki page, she is playing the Little Mermaid Character in Shrek 4, not 3. Looks like someone just put her in the wrong film.

Sequel

"It will be the third sequel to Shrek" - isn't it rather the second sequel instead of the third? 81.208.165.173 14:46, 13 December 2006 (UTC)

Another bad movie. 1st one was good, this is getting out of hand. --TRYTOBENICE 03:05, 29 December 2006 (UTC)

Complaining, it is nothing new to be a third film, how many have been done before. IF I have read correct the second film did better than the first film. Also nothing new. Someone realized that animation with a PG rating could sell to the popular age group 12 to 50 or whatever, it is no longer just a kid's film. So this is no Cinderella 3 Disney made for video DVD, but a real movie. I can state view on the talk page and Disney undersold the abilities of the Australia 2-D computer animation unit they closed that produced TV animation and Disney DVD sequels. Their last work was a start on Cinderella 3, which is what was stated in the ABC Network website announcement of the studio closing. *see DisneyToons - Outsourced as is everything... As for new idea films we all seek them..... kidsheaven 01:34, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

More Cleanup

I've just done some more clean-up of the synopsis, taking out stuff I can't find on IMDB or the official site for the movie. If we are going to add anything more, I suggest sources are cited. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 16:56, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

Test Audiences

I remember reading an article on Jim Hill Media last year saying that the test audiences depsised the work in progress. Does anyone know of the current reactions of the test audiences? --170.35.224.64 18:38, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

I know that the final seven American Idol contestants were shown it, and they said it was funny and the best Shrek yet. They were probably told to say that, though because they couldn't put down their supporters at Dreamworks.

Songs from the trailer

Does anyone know the song that Snow White starts singing when she's about to attack the trees with all the animals? Brad 17:17, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Shrek 4 or Beyond?

Note, I don't know where it is found. But, posting it is the last in the series - has any one learned Never Say Never Again? James Bond, Star Trek, Rocky. Think they are done? But, they have returned with many lives. Even easier with animation it would seem. Kidsheaven 23:29, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I haven't found one source that reliably says it is even intended to be the last in the series, so I am removing any references to it, until such a source can be found. If Dreamworks makes some comment that it is intended to be, then we can word it like that in the WP article. -- Alucard (Dr.) | Talk 15:02, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Info

I have read the novel, and there's some really cool info in it that connects a lot,

  • King Harold dies from his illness.
  • The Dronkeys return, named cocoa, peanut, bananas, charlie, studley, and mr. snuffles
  • Shrek's father was an ogre, and tried to eat him. I know, gross.
  • Rapunzel SORT OF turns against the princesses. Please assume she's a traitor.
  • Merlin the wizard is Prince Charming's father(a reference is made to a divorce of the Fairy Godmother).
  • Artie becomes King(go figure).
  • Shrek and Fiona have 3 little ogre children at the end, named Finbar, Cletus, and Elmirah.

I think we should work that into the article if we have the chance after the film comes out. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 12.201.69.67 (talk) 18:49, 8 April 2007 (UTC).

i believe most of it, especially the part about the ogre babies, because that was revealed in a movie preview in cinemas if you went to see meet the robinsons.--65.54.154.45 00:10, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

After watching this movie, half the info posted by 12.201.69.67 may be correct for the book bu is incorrect for the actual movie. That isnt the name of the Donkey children (the real names are Cocoa, Peanut, & Bananas), the Shrek children or the number of children (Shrek has three), just to name a few. 208.137.139.5 21:00, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

I saw the movie and must note that when Shrek made the statement about his father trying to eat him he was joking, such is evident in his voice and facial expression. By the by, exactly what novel is it that the above information is taken from?

It's from the official movie novel.

babies

What are the names of shrek and fiona's babies? 128.192.148.4 02:53, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

An unconfirmed source states the current names are finkle, edna, and seamus, but these names may change. it has also been hinted that finkle is a nickname and his real name is actually finbar.--71.176.136.13 15:28, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Big Grammar Errors

Mike Myers is the voice of Shrek. Shrek is not the voice of Mike Myers. Shrek is voiced by Mike Myers. Mike Myers is not voiced by Shrek. The mistake is throughout the entire plot section. I'm surprised no one noticed before, but we don't really need to say "voiced by", anyway. Normally, putting the voice actor's name in parentheses after the character is enough. I'm changing it now. --DarshaAssant 01:17, 20 May 2007 (UTC)

Reception Section

I've removed the following:

Several critics have panned the film saying that the original Shrek was ment to be a mix up of to make fun of traditonal fariytails and stories. But the newer films are now just being to be a parody of real life stuff, movies, and events. Despite this the film remained popular with the public.

Aside from the horrible spelling and grammar, this paragraph seemed unnecessary, nor did it have any sourced information. Sam 05:15, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Colbert cast as Shrek?!

I removed this from reception:

"Popular fake news ancor Steven Colbert of Comedy Central was originally casted to play Shrek and several other minior characters in the film but, refused because he felt the movie was anti-american. Even after Dream Works offered him a $32,000,000 paycheck. Colbert's publicist made this statement: "No amount of money will make Steven turn his back on his country." "

Not only does it have nothing to do with the reception of the film, but it was obviously a joke by Colbert that the person who put that in the article didn't get.

Good call.. Why i never made that connection is beyond me, I just was suprised to see no reference to it, thought i was being smart or something!

Merchandisers?

Is this the first movie to list in the credits, those involved in merchandising the movie? Legal department, and credits for use of Hollywood sign, some businesses. Don't remember that for the prior films- have they been, or some other film sued for use of fake versions of names of businesses? At one time it used to be you could not use many real names this way. Shrek, Saturday Night Live and others over the years have changed these rules, written or not, and does it sometimes change back? Kidsheaven 02:56, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

The pig "squeals"?

Quote: "The Three Little Pigs, Big Bad Wolf, the Gingerbread Man, and Pinocchio are confronted by Charming, who demands to know where Fiona and Shrek are. The group resists well, but one of the Pigs breaks down and squeals." I don't think that the term "squeals" should be used seeing as though he's a PIG... 71.54.253.118 01:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Really Trivial Trivia

Removed the following from Trivia:

King Arthur was also called Artie in an episode of Fairly Odd Parents.

King Arthur has, I'm sure, been called Artie in hundreds of attempts at comedy throughout the ages. They're of no relevance to the upcoming Shrek film.

Ugly Step-Sister

I'm not sure if it's because I saw an advanced preview, but when I saw the film in the UK on Saturday 23/6/07, Doris the Ugly Step-Sister was NOT played by Jonathan Ross like in Shrek 2. I thought maybe they decided to keep Larry King as the voice like in the American version after they drew criticism for changing his voice in Shrek 2? But this does leave a bit of a continuity gap after seeing the British Shrek 2, as you get used to hearing Jonathan Ross! Anyway, does anyone know if this is just because it was a preview or if it's to stay?

I saw it last night in the UK, and it still wasn't Jonathan Ross - glad I wasn't the only one who noticed! Squidward2602 19:22, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Princess ida

Does anyone remember the exact words during the play (in shrek) which are taken from ida? I've mentioned it in the trivia although a quotation would be helpful. Jiminyjimjim 11:09, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

Missing Song

There seems to be a song in the movie (which I saw today) that was playing while everyone was captured by Charming. That song doesn't seem to be on the soundtrack. Does anyone know the artist or title of that song?

If you mean while they were actually imprisoned and getting ready to bust out, it was a

riff on 'Battle Without Honor or Humanity' by Tomoyasu Hotei, better known as 'That one guitar tune from KILL BILL.' They changed it enough so they didn't have to credit it, like what's frequently done to the STAR TREK or STAR WARS themes, etc.

68.73.3.101 19:08, 19 May 2007 (UTC)MD
No, this is before that scene, when Shrek is thrown into prison. The song the OP is referring to is a piano piece and actually has lyrics - although I don't recall any of the lyrics right now. I'm also very interested in learning the author/title of this song. It was a cool song, but for some reason it is not on the soundtrack.
The missing song is called "9 Crimes", by Damien Rice. I found the name on one of the reviews for the "Shrek the Third" soundtrack on amazon. It's in the movie but for some wacky reason they left it off the soundtrack.

Its many songs missing.. but its 1 that i rly want. It comes while the prince says: "You are about to enter a world of pane witch you are not" fimiliar. that are on ca. 1h 11m 47s to 1h 11m 54s in the movie.

Can we get a complete list of songs used in the movie?

Can't the soundtrack listing just be on this page and not on its own page so it's easier to find? --In Defense of the Artist 02:54, 24 September 2007 (UTC)

Further cultural reference "YOu're about to enter a world of pain"

I'm from Germany, so most of the spoken English I've heard so far is from English movies. So I'm not quit sure whether
You're about to enter a world of pain
is actually a rather common expression in American English or a direct reference to this one pseudo-jewish character from The Big Lebowski. Prince Charming uses this expression at least twice when referring to or talking to Shrek, while Lebowski's Walter Sobchak usesd it when he threatens a fellow bowler with a gun because he had broken an official bowling rule and tried to solve this problem by simply ignoring a throw.

I wouldnt say its a common phrase, but its definately used by...err violent people Dragon queen4ever 23:25, 5 October 2007 (UTC)

Citing cultural references??

The Cultural References section is encumbered by a 'citation needed' tag after practically every phrase. My question is: how are you supposed to cite a cultural reference? Do you:

a) prove that the scene happened in the movie? how does one do that? find a screenshot? find an article that mentions it?? b) prove that the referred event/scene/song/skit exists? how does one do that? c) prove that it was an intentional reference? really? how?

In sum, it seems to me that this is one section where there will be at least a little bit of speculation and interpretation, by definition. even if one does find a source to "cite", it's most likely going to be an article or blog with someone else's speculation and interpretation. It's the nature of the beast. Any ideas how people have gotten around this in other wp entries?

Removed a supposed reference to Final Fantasy

As the title says..I removed a supposed uncited reference to Final Fantasy from this paragraph.

The reference itself stated that the animals coming from the forest were similar to the "Chocobo Rush" spell, and various summons, but since there is no proof of this..yeah.(Eternum123 (talk) 19:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC))

Charming Dead?

I don't remember it ever being proven that Charming was mortally wounded from the tower fall; I just watched it last night and after pausing the movie right when it falls, I'm pretty sure that the window falls squarely on him, as a repeat of the beginning scene. I don't think that he was mortally wounded, if really wounded at all, but I'm asking others about this before I do anything else.--Shroopliss T/C\U 17:28, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

The main villian in both of the first two movies died in the end (Farquaad was eaten by Dragon, Fairy Godmother's spell backfired and caused her to dissapear into thin air), so it's only logical to assume that Prince Charming is indeed dead. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.184.243.179 (talk) 12:57, 19 August 2008 (UTC)

Am I the only one who thinks that the Tim and Eric promos were quite tongue in cheek? Even to the point of mocking the movie? Especially the one where they actually goto see it.
