Name[edit]

According to pl wiki entry on the village of pl:Stary Wielisław (pl wiki has no entry on this church), the name is kościół parafialny pod wezwaniem św. Katarzyny Aleksandryjskiej , which would translate to Parish Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria in in Stary Wielisław. --_{Piotr Konieczny aka Prokonsul Piotrus| reply here} 19:05, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Shrine[edit]

en:National_shrine knows 13 International shrines not 8; the given references knows only 6 in 2013 ([[1]], in 2024 there are 7, but there is no "Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows in Stary Wielisła" mentioned. --Elmepi (talk) 23:18, 12 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Names[edit]

The Polish Wikipedia article "Parafia św. Katarzyny w Starym Wielisławiu" states that "Kosciol parafialny pw Sw. Katarzyny Aleksandryjskiej ... [j]est takze znany jako Sanktuarium Matki Boskiej Bolesnej."

Elmepi's source #2 above renders this as "Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria", "International Shrine of Our Lady of Sorrows".

A case of theological "split personality"?

"A national shrine is a Catholic church or other sacred place which has met certain requirements and is given this honor by the national episcopal conference to recognize the church's special cultural, historical, and religious significance."

It would seem we are dealing with a religious supercategory and that our "Kosciol parafialny pw Sw. Katarzyny Aleksandryjskie" (Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria) is "one of eight International shrines of the Roman Catholic Church".

Our church's principal name would therefore seem to be "Church of St. Catherine of Alexandria" in Stary Wielisław.
