Requested move 10 April 2017

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. If Shy Guy (Mario) ever becomes a separate article, consider another RM. (non-admin closure) GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 00:32, 18 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Shy GuyShy Guy (song) – Though Shy Guy (Mario) redirects to a section of another article, between the song and the Mario series character, there's probably not a primary topic. Creating a WP:TWODAB disambiguation page at the base title is probably necessary due to a lack of a clear primary topic. Steel1943 (talk) 22:36, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Claiming "there's probably not a primary topic" is, frankly, lame. There is no argument let alone evidence of this being the case. The Mario character doesn't even have a page. And, in fact, page view counts indicate the song most clearly is the primary topic. I suggest the next editor do a speedy SNOW close so nobody else's time is wasted. Maybe if the character gets its own page and develops page view counts comparable to those achieved by the song, there would be a case for no primary topic. --В²C 00:46, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • Per the page view comparison of Shy Guy, Shy Guy (song) and Shy Guy (Mario), I'm not convinced that there is a primary topic. The amount of page views that Shy Guy receives is about 5–6 times the amount of views that Shy Guy (Mario) receives; from seeing that, I'm not completely convinced that readers know for a fact that they are trying to locate the song when searching for "Shy Guy". Also, using third party search engines, the results are about equal for the song and the Mario character. Steel1943 (talk) 04:00, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
      • Shy Guy (song) is a redirect to Shy Guy. It's amazing it gets any views at all. Page view counts are driven almost entirely by 3rd party search results which generally take users directly to the desired article regardless of title. So the favoritism an article gets in terms of page view counts by being at the base name is negligible. --В²C 18:13, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
        • On the English Wikipedia, Shy Guy and Shy Guy (song) have about the same amount of incoming links in the article namespace. That, and if the amount of page views to Shy Guy (song) is subtracted from the amount of page views to Shy Guy (since views to the redirect also count as views to its target), that reduces the amount of page views to Shy Guy by about 1/4th. And then, that would mean that hypothetically, 1 of 3 readers go to Shy Guy (Mario) after going to Shy Guy (not counting the readers who view Shy Guy (song) to go to Shy Guy). That right there looks like a lack of a primary topic. Steel1943 (talk) 18:37, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. There's rarely a reason to have a two-entry dab page when there's only one article and one redirect. The hatnote on this article is more than sufficient to get the Mario searchers to the right article without unnecessarily inconveniencing others. (No reason for a snow close, though, with only two comments so far.) Station1 (talk) 01:41, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
