Content discussion[edit]

I've edited the article a bit to improve sources, remove unreferenced information and give less weight to the negatives in the article, which falls under the policy on biographies. If there are still concerns about what is there, please discuss below. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 23:56, 6 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The comment about Sid miller wanting to promote the consumption of horse meat is bogus. Reference 80thTexas Legislative HB 2476 by Miller A bill to be entitled an act relating to the sale and possession of horse meat and the sale of equine animals. Be it enacted by the legislature of the state of Texas; Section 1. Sections 149.002 and 149.003, of the agriculture code, are amended to read as follows; ( Sec. 149.002 Sale or possession of horse eat. A person commits an offense if; (1) the person sells, offers for sale, or exhibits for sale horse meat as food for human consumption in the United States; Or (2) the person possesses horse eat with the intent to sell the horse eat as food for human consumption in the United States.

Also the ethics Commission has sent Sid Miller a letter saying that they are not valid complaints. A copy of the letter my be seen at wwww.millerfortexas.com — Preceding unsigned comment added by Earnestpbass (talkcontribs) 01:35, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Earnestpbass: Thank you. The ethics thing is clear enough, I will change the article to make a note of that. The horse meat thing is not clear though, I can't quote a law because that would be considered original research based on a primary source on my part. Mr. Miller is quoted in the given sources as saying he favors the slaughter and export of horsemeat, we need something else to balance that out. Perhaps even a statement from his website will do. But we can't quote a law. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 16:39, 7 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Article POV issues[edit]

This article does not appear to have a neutral point of view. It focuses too much on controversial actions or reports on Miller (such as the agriculture department fee hikes, the "Jesus shot" section, his controversial comments concerning the Middle East and Hillary Clinton, and reportedly posting fake news on his social media accounts). Also, some of the positive sections, such as about 3/5ths of the Agriculture Commissioner section, although being interesting, also have POVish wording, being slanted in favor of Miller. Both the positive and negative content probably should stay, but much of I does not appear to have a neutral point of view. --1990'sguy (talk) 00:43, 4 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Sid Miller (politician)Sid Miller – No indication that any of the others are known as "Sid". Unreal7 (talk) 16:11, 14 August 2018 (UTC) --Relisting. Dreamy Jazz 🎷 talk to me | my contributions 12:12, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. I see only one article, Sidney Miller (musician) who uses "Sid Miller" in one track listing but the rest of the article uses Sidney Miller, not enough to justify the use of Sid Miller in my humble opinion. The rest of the other articles in the DAB page do not use Sid Miller. I see no reason not to go ahead with the move. dawnleelynn(talk) 16:38, 14 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Mickey Rooney's sidekick Sid Miller (actor) is also known as Sid. In ictu oculi (talk) 07:50, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Neutral Sid Miller (actor) is a redirect to Sidney Miller (actor). In the article, it is noted that Sid Miller is his birthname. He is also mentioned as Sid in the picture caption. The rest of the article he is mentioned as Sidney Miller. This could be confusing. I took it that Sidney Miller was preferred as it was used so many more times. The fact that the article title used is Sidney Miller (actor) indicates it does not conflict with titles named Sid Miller. The result is confusing. dawnleelynn(talk) 15:16, 15 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose. Given Sidney Miller (actor). -- Necrothesp (talk) 15:57, 22 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. Although the musician and the actor/director have been infrequently/occasionally credited as "Sid", the politician is the only Sid Miller who uses it as his WP:COMMONNAME, without becoming the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, since the disambiguation page's main header is Sidney Miller. Thus it would seem that a hatnote {other people} atop the sole Sid Miller article should suffice.    Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 19:54, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, this is what I thought, but I didn't know the nomenclature to use. He's the only one using it as his common name. I change back from neutral to support this. dawnleelynn(talk) 20:43, 23 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: Note that our conventions generally discourage us from very explicitly discussing common shortened forms of names in articles, since they are considered obvious. For example, MOS:NICKNAMES says only to put the nickname in explicitly if it is not "a common hypocorism". The Lucille Ball article doesn't explicitly mention that she was called Lucy and the Richard Nixon article doesn't explicitly say he was called Dick (although it does say he was called Tricky Dick). Practically every Michael has sometimes been called Mike, every Steven has been called Steve, every Sidney called Sid, every William called Bill, every James called Jim or Jimmy, etc. So I don't think we should put much weight on whether an article points out that sort of thing explicitly. —BarrelProof (talk) 05:32, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
