I can also verify that the claim that the Humpty Dumpty link is as recent as 1996 is false. I was also taught the Humpty Dumpty connection at a primary school trip to Colchester Castle in the 1970s, perhaps by the same tour guide who dressed as a Puritan and threatened to throw us into the well/ dungeon for wearing 'gaudy dress' (much to our delight). My mother grew up in Colchester during the 1940s and remembers learning as a girl the Civil War Humpty Dumpty connection to St Mary at the Walls. We were taught this as if it were a historical fact. Would just like to point out that the Humpty Dumpty connection significantly predates 1996. I learned it at primary school in the 1970's, and it almost certainly had been part of a local oral tradition a long time previously. The teacher concerned had several stories about events and places in the Colchester locality, ofc I have no idea where he learned it, but it was well known locally in the 70's at least. -SB

Nice to have a new article on the Second Civil War :-). I have added the article into English Civil War timeline and Template:Campaignbox Second English Civil War. BTW the dates in the article need wikifying so that the date options in the user profiles work June 13August 28 "Siege of Colchester" --Philip Baird Shearer 23:26, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
