Best Fighter?[edit]

"Considered by many to be the best fighter to see action during the war"

Maybe on Germany's side. Why is it some people always extrapolate the ability of planes and their effect? To any any rational person, the desperation is evident, especially when it is accompanied by the words "end of the war". If you are going to say something like that, at least post a source that says why it is consider it to be the best because "many people" will not suffice and the obvious amateurism of it and is absolutely insufferable.

Several sources (probably copying each other) make the statement - this whole article is REALLY bad (several really basic inaccuracies for instance!!) - it needs complete rewriting. D.VI and Dr.I[edit]

I could not find any evidence that either the Dr.I or the D.VI were developments of this line. They may be, but who says? Removed for now. Article has at least one inline cite but needs many more.TSRL (talk) 08:55, 11 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Operators[edit]

It is unsourced - and it seems very unlikely - the type may have seen limited post war service in Germany before the Allied occupation put a stop to German military air activities and in the Baltic - but Switzerland?Nigel Ish (talk) 18:45, 19 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Switzerland operated a single Siemens-Schuckert D.III (8356/17) from 1918 to 1922 per here - and photographs of the aircraft are well known, as can be seen with this photo and there is even a 1/48th scale model kit of that aircraft. The unit it came from was near the Swiss border, and had just four aircraft.

Lithuania meanwhile managed to acquire a single D.IV (6177/?) but it never flew in their service, having come from a trainload of damaged aircraft they hijacked.

Belgium, like Switzerland, operated a single D.IV from 1919 to 1921. The Datafile mentions Sweden, but the aircraft illustrated appears to be Swiss, so is probably a typo. - NiD.29 (talk) 07:19, 20 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
