Needs expert[edit]

I think this draft needs an expert on taxonomy and botany.CycoMa (talk) 21:05, 5 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Member of carpet weeds[edit]

Hey Peter coxhead I noticed you change it up a bit. The source states this Silene tibetica is a species of plants in the family carpetweeds.

Are Caryophyllaceae also called carpetweeds? Or is carpetweed like a subfamily?CycoMa (talk) 06:54, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CycoMa: the immediate problem was that carpetweed is a disambiguation page. I've personally never heard this English name applied to Caryophyllaceae. I associate it with members of Aizoaceae, like Sesuvium edmonstonei, Galapagos carpetweed, which covers some of the small islands. Are there other sources that use this English name for the family? I tried a random selection of links in the taxonbar at Caryophyllaceae, but didn't find one. "Pink family" is relatvely common. Peter coxhead (talk) 15:29, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Peter coxhead is there such thing as a subfamily?CycoMa (talk) 15:31, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Caryophyllaceae has some named subfamilies – see Caryophyllaceae#Systematics – but they don't seem to be widely accepted. Peter coxhead (talk) 15:35, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
When I looked carpetweeds I found this family called Molluginaceae. According to the article it states. The APG III system of 2009 made no change in the status of the family as compared to the APG II system of 2003 and the APG system of 1998, apart from a reassignment of several genera, such as the placement of Corrigiola and Telephium into Caryophyllaceae, Corbichonia in Lophiocarpaceae, Microtea into Microteaceae and Limeum in Limeaceae, because the family was found to be widely polyphyletic in Caryophyllales.
Maybe the taxonomy changed and maybe encyclopedia of life forgot to change it.CycoMa (talk) 15:36, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Actually I read the source and apparently the taxonomy you put lines up with the source.CycoMa (talk) 17:50, 6 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
