Allies[edit]

Should some more of their allies be added to the list? I know they have partnerships with groups like the Shining Path, FARC, certain Chinese Triads, some street gangs. I can provide references if need be. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 184.158.92.118 (talk) 05:19, 6 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Shining Path[edit]

It was said that I would need sources to back up the claim that the Shining Path and Sinaloa Cartel are allies. Here are the sources.

http://www.insightcrime.org/news-analysis/what-a-sinaloa-cartel-alliance-would-mean-for-the-shining-path http://warontherocks.com/2015/03/narcotrafficking-the-shining-path-and-the-strategic-importance-of-peru/ http://dialogo-americas.com/en_GB/articles/rmisa/features/regional_news/2012/03/19/aa-sinaloa-shining-path-link http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/apr/26/peru-guerrillas-set-aside-rebellion-drug-money/?page=all

and this picture, which I would like someone to put on the page since I do not know how. http://www.frank-cs.org/cms/images/Sinaloa_Cartel.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.56.69.66 (talk) 19:24, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Picture[edit]

I have found an interesting picture showing Sinaloa Federation's global connections. However, I do not know how to post pictures. So here is the link for anyone who knows how. http://www.frank-cs.org/cms/images/Sinaloa_Cartel.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.56.69.66 (talk) 17:42, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

membership[edit]

the number used is "1,5 000, 000". is it trying to state they have 1.5 million but added a zero too many and messed up the spacing or 15 million with a comma too many? i'd fix it, but i dont know which one it is --92.193.0.144 (talk) 00:25, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, thank you for updating this article. The source you used does not look very reliable. In addition, I couldn't find any reference to the Sinaloa Cartel (the source talks about the Russian organized crime groups). [1] ComputerJA () 01:08, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
excuse me? i didn't update jack shit, i merely noticed that the number didn't make sense and wanted to point that out. what on earth gave you the idea that i was the one who added this? why would i even ask a question about this if i was the one who wrote it? --92.193.0.144 (talk) 02:32, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry. There was an IP user who updated the page and incorrectly assumed it was you. The info has been erased nonetheless. ComputerJA () 03:18, 16 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Does DEA believe, without knowing?[edit]

The 3rd 'graph of the "Operations" section begins

In the late 1980s, the United States Drug Enforcement Administration believed the Sinaloa Cartel was the largest drug trafficking organization operating in Mexico.

and BTW includes a ref, that may (or not; please check) help to answer the question of whether disinterested observers think they were right. If so, state in the same sentence that it's so; if no reliable source is prepared to comment on the probability that their belief was accurate, i would argue that the sentence as it stands is at best confusing, too likely to be read as crediting their guesses as reliable information, and not simply irrelevant: exactly to the extent that it is irrelevant to establishing the fact, it is thereby implicitly deceptive.

World presence[edit]

Could someone make a map of the countries where the Sinaloa Cartel has a presence? Apparently it is 54, more than any other cartel- really shows how crazy powerful this organization is. Orphaned references in Sinaloa Cartel[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Sinaloa Cartel's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Infobox from hell[edit]

Per MOS:INFOBOXPURPOSE, the infobox is supposed to summarise key facts from the article. To that end, I intend to remove all the allies, rivals and territory that are not covered in the article. Any objections? FDW777 (talk) 12:18, 1 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • I completely agree. The infobox is supposed to be a snapshot. That word salad of "allies" and territories is absurd. Is their alliance with the Morrocan Mafia truly significant? Just because they sold a pound of meth in Michigan, is it now their territory? I supposed heavily editing that box.Niteshift36 (talk) 15:50, 11 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It still is really bad as of April 2023. Normally I'd be happy to edit articles like these but the users here are so aggressive about edit warring or building back up stuff that ignores the MOS. Maybe best to protect this page somehow. toobigtokale (talk) 21:46, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Cleaned up the infobox. Moved a lot of stuff to the articles body best I could. I'm not perfect so it might be a little wonky looking. Feel free to clean them up (specifically the Current alliances section). I will probably return to clean up the intro the best I can. I also recommend the article be protected ASAP. Citations in lead and other issues[edit]

Reminder that unless claims are particularly controversial, they don't need citations in the lead as per MOS:LEADCITE. Currently has too many that aren't really needed, for things like English translations or nicknames.

I've been watching this page for a year or so and it's always kind of a mess tbh; grammar is off, editorialization is common ("powerful" is the most common offender), people add claims without citing often, it's repetitive, and efforts to fix these issues seems to lead to edit wars or being overwritten in a few weeks with worse writing. toobigtokale (talk) 21:17, 28 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

 • Reduced the intro best I could; most of what was in there was already in the main body or the article. I also found and - hopefully - fixed most of those grammar and spelling errors. If I missed or messed anything up, please let me know or just go for it. 😃 FriarTuck1981 (talk) 05:26, 17 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As of July 23, 2023, the lead now seems much too short. toobigtokale (talk) 17:37, 23 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

“evolution from humble beginnings” is a questionable way to describe the beginning of a drug cartel[edit]

The use of such light-hearted language isn’t a good way to describe the origin of one of the most potent crime syndicates in human history. LordOfWalruses (talk) 01:44, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It's also flowery writing; on encyclopedias we're supposed to write boring and let the facts speak for themselves. 174.197.74.126 (talk) 01:55, 23 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Facts: I hope someone (who can edit locked pages) notices this talk post and actually removes that part. LordOfWalruses (talk) 01:38, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just fixed the wording and I got 4 points taken off my account. Why? The wording was genuinely problematic, and the fact that I got positive point flow from this talk page suggested that I would’ve gotten positive point flow from the edit, so why did this happen, and can someone please revert this point deduction (if possible)? LordOfWalruses (talk) 22:43, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
These are not points. These are the number of characters you added/removed from the text. It's perfectly okay, thanks and welcome to Wikipedia! — kashmīrī TALK 23:24, 28 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
