Sir James Campbell (1737–1805)[edit]

Sir James Campbell (1737–1805) is shown as "Member of Parliament for the Chiltern Hundreds". Was there really a constituency of this name? If there was, it should be listed at Leigh Rayment's Historical List of MPs – Constituencies beginning with "C" (part 4) - but it's not.

When somebody (almost always a sitting MP) is appointed to the Chiltern Hundreds, this means that they have accepted the sinecure post of Crown Steward and Bailiff of the three Chiltern Hundreds of Stoke, Desborough and Burnham, which debars them from sitting in the House of Commons. Please can we have clarification, or at least a source for Sir James Campbell (1737–1805) being Member of Parliament for the Chiltern Hundreds. --Redrose64 (talk) 22:04, 17 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
