Place of birth

[edit]

All the references to Kirkpatrick, except one, give his place of birth as the family home at Closeburn, Dumfriesshire. The Lord Kinnaird website rather intriguingly states that he was born in Toronto, Canada. For the time being, I have gone with the overwhelming majority view but accept that one may have simply taken this from the other. The author of the Kinnaird website refers to "my new research", so he may well be right. I have sent the author an email for clarification. -- Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 08:47, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The reply I received to my email was as follows:

Thanks for getting in touch.

James's parents, Charles and Helen travelled to Canada about 1837, and the first four children of the marriage were born there:
Thomas, Jane, James and Charlotte. They seem to have come back on the death of Charles's father in 1844.

I think the confusion must have arisen because of the family title 'of Closeburn'. As the family histories relate,
Closeburn was sold many years previously. It just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read on the internet!

I will incorporate this into the article later. Daemonic Kangaroo (talk) 09:04, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
