Air Crash Investigation
[edit]In the popular culture section it mentions him being interviewed and profiled in the Mayday/Air Crash Investigation documentary about the Munich Air disaster. This is not accurate. Harry Gregg was the only survivor/player interviewed for the program. This should be corrected but the page is protected. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 111.220.41.89 (talk) 02:14, 22 October 2023 (UTC)

Director at Wigan
[edit]Did he ever hold the position of the Director of Wigan Athletic? -Aabha (talk) 17:35, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, I've found a source and cited it. File:Yemen flag large.png CTOAGN (talk) 14:04, 29 January 2006 (UTC)
GA nomination failed
[edit]It failed for these reasons :
- Could this line, One of his uncles, the Newcastle United centre forward Jackie Milburn, was a professional footballer, but it was Charlton's mother Cissie who coached him at first. His elder brother, Jack, went to work as a miner and applied to join the police before also becoming a footballer., be rephrased. Or maybe give some reason why is his uncle mentioned ... was he his mentor, his helper or coach.
- The article needs a copyediting.
- The article needs more references.

"Charlton was playing alongside his brother Jack and the two openly embraced and wept as the enormity of their achievement sunk in", have changed it to "greatness", take a look in a dictionary.
Sir?
[edit]If Charlton is a CBE, then according to Order of the British Empire he does not have a knighthood and isn't "Sir Bobby". GBE and KBE are sirs, CBE, OBE, and MBE are not -- no? Tkinias 12:56, 5 July 2006 (UTC)
I think it's more of an 'honourific' situation, but my knowledge in the whole honours system isn't good at all. Might be best to look at British honours system. As an example, Elton John is a CBE, but has the title 'Sir'. -- RandomUser, 1st August 2006
Rumour has it that Bobby Charlton is immortal.
- If it's the same situation as Sir Alex Ferguson (also a CBE), then it's possible that Bobby Charlton is a Knight Bachelor, which confers the title "Sir" without the subject being a knight of the Order of the British Empire. – PeeJay 11:01, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
Hair loss
[edit]It says in the articel that he bagan to lose his hair in the early 1990s. Surely this is a mistake. More like the early 60s. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.88.255.207 (talk) 00:35, 7 December 2007 (UTC)
Marriage
[edit]It says at this link that Charlton claims he did not meet his wife at a dry cleaner's. http://loneliestjukebox.blogspot.com/2007/10/1966-and-all-that.html

[edit]With due respect to whoever put up that photo, surely we can find a more appropriate one to represent the man. He looks like a local council's potholes inspector. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.1.126.94 (talk) 20:12, 13 June 2010 (UTC)

Waterford stats
[edit]The stats in the table for Waterford United make no sense. Twice it says he has a total of 4 games, but the article and other totals rows go for 31 games. Stu.W UK (talk) 00:13, 8 March 2011 (UTC)

Table of appearances and goals
[edit]I have frequently had to revert edits trying to change the Man U goals in the info box from 199 to 249, having failed to read the note which says " * Senior club appearances and goals counted for the domestic league only ". I have now put in a comment hoping to dissuade such edits. As a matter of curiosity I looked at the table of appearances and goals at Bobby Charlton#Club and realised that the totals don't agree with the sum of the relevant columns. For example, for 1967-68 the totals of the relevant columns come to 52 appearances and 18 goals, not 54 and 20. There are 3 other years where the appearances totals don't agree with the sum of the relevant columns. Unfortunately I can't see a source for the data. I did find a source which confirmed the 758 appearances, rather than the 753 which the columns would give, and of course the 249 goals (not 247 from the columns) is frequently mentioned in the context of Rooney reaching the same. I wonder therefore whether there are other categories of match not listed in the existing columns? Does anyone know what the source of the data would be? --David Biddulph (talk) 21:48, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
- The table was missing a column for "other" matches (i.e. the Charity Shield and the Intercontinental Cup), that's why there was a discrepancy. The maths should all add up now. – PeeJay 23:02, 11 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. Makes sense now. --David Biddulph (talk) 06:47, 12 January 2017 (UTC)
- Why arbitrarily decide to limit his totals to those in domestic leagues? Everyone else is counting all goals (as illustrated by the omnipresent international coverage occasioned by Rooney's surpassing him), and the fact that you have had many revisions likely means that your artificial restriction makes no sense. It makes more sense to comport the summary table to the detailed table lower on the page. The summary table that you keep reverting is not what it appears to be; it is not a table of appearances and goals. It is a table of some of his appearances and some of his goals. Which is why people keep changing it. BTW: he is playing in cup and other competitions based on his and his team's participation in the domestic league, representing the domestic league and, therefore, FOR the domestic league so even with the arbitrary construct that you have created, your totals are wrong. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.126.107.6 (talk) 03:04, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
- The usage here is consistent with that on the pages for other players (including Wayne Rooney). The relevant definition is at WP:WikiProject Football/Players, and if you wish to suggest changes the place to do so would be Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Players. --David Biddulph (talk) 08:26, 22 January 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for that clarification. While I and many others apparently (based upon the frequent attempts of people here and elsewhere to change the individual tables), think that the template does not make sense, I will not start the discussion on that topic. Fwiw, it does not appear that any definition is given on the template page, just a template with the proposed structure. I was not involved in the creation of the template and do not know if there was a discussion or consensus reached, but if there was a discussion, it is not in the "Talk" section of that template page. Your first comment in this section doesn't state that this is based upon a template, and you wrote that you added a comment to dissuade the edits which, although I ignored it, was apparently not in your first iteration of the table despite that comment appearing on the template. Anyway, if your first comment had the info about the template and wiki talk pages, I likely would not have been pestering you about this. I will refrain from further changes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.212.118.122 (talk) 04:14, 24 January 2017 (UTC)
