Hi, hope you can help me out on this. I went to nominate the article via WP:AFD but once I'd followed the first recommended step I found the article had previously been successfully nominated for deletion. Am I able to renominate for speedy deletion on these grounds? If not, can you talk me through how to alter the AfD nomination so that the deletion discussion redirect leads to a new page, not the old archived one? Sure. Rather than using {{subst:afd1}}, use {{subst:afd2}} (or 3, 4, or whatever, as appropriate). The process is described on WP:AFD. It could be a speedy candidate as recreation of previously deleted material, but only if it is substantially similar to the originally AFD'ed article. It seems a lot of time passed since the deletion and the recreation, so it may be different enough, so a new AFD is probably the way to go. -Lilac Soul ^{(talk • contribs • count) • I'm watching this page so just reply to me right here!} 06:58, 17 March 2009 (UTC)

Moving Pages

OK; if you go to Nagaland national football team, it will redirect you to the new name, but at the top, in small letters, it says, "Redirected from Nagaland national football team". If you click on that, you'll be on the actual redirect page, which is just 1 line.

Then click on "what links here", and you'll see the list of pages. They link to the redirect, not to the new page.

Hope that makes sense?

And, if you don't want to edit all those pages, don't worry - a 'bot will should pick them up and change them automagically in a few days.

This one puzzled several of us for a while - I couldn't work out why I couldn't find it anywhere, using advanced search. I thought it was a backlink in the image, but that didn't fix it. However, we think it's just a caching issue with the wiki servers.

From WP:WHATLINKSHERE; "if a page's links change due to a change in the template, the backlinks for that page are not updated immediately, but via the job queue."

So I'm pretty sure it will just take time for the servers to update their links. Please wait for 12 hours; if it's still a problem, please let me know.

Should I AfD or just turn into redirects

{{helpme}} There are 4 useless articles on pseudonational football teams that I think needn't exist as they have not yet played any matches and are of little notability. However I do think it would be useful for them to redirect to the NF-Board page as they are members of that association and that would be the only thing that conferred any notability on them whatsoever. Should I just AfD them or is there another process to go through. These are the pages fyi

Edit summaries when nominating pages for deletion.

Please can I ask that when you nominate an article for deletion, you add an appropriate edit summary for the AfD log. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion#How to list pages for deletion: Step number three suggests you use a summary such as "Adding [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/NominationName]]". Your template proposal

I agree that the template needs tidying, but that element of technical twiddling is something I haven't get very involved in.

I think my preference would be to have the sections as continental sections (maybe with Spain/British Isles/Rest of Europe as three separate sections, given the number of teams in those two categories), as that would make it easier to know what section to look in for a particular team: maybe superscript numbers within the section to indicate the categories that you have used.

There is a problem about the non-exclusiveness of categories, such that 4 teams are duplicated.

I also have an antipathy to negative definitions: the teams who play in my local park on Sunday mornings are not registered with FIFA or the NF Board either, so I would prefer something like non-national representative football teams as the header for the box.

But I don't want to be negative: what you have done is a great improvement on the existing template, and certainly of "Wikipublishable" quality. Kevin McE (talk) 19:29, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

How about 'unaffiliated international teams'? My problem with 'non-national' is that some of these teams are representing sovereign nations, and most of them would consider themselves to be representing a nation of some sort. Other than that, would you have a note about the confederation memberships some of them hold? Yep: that works for me as a title. I have no strong preferences over whether the confederation affiliations are labelled or not, but would suggest that now that if so they are grouped geographically those affiliations (I'm assuming that you have been able to verify them since your query on WT:FOOTY) should be explained within their collapsible section.

As regards how, there are WP:BOLD or discrete methods. The WP:BRD model would say it's OK to just change the template, with suitable editnote or talkpage explanation, and then delay and discussion is only necessary if anyone reverts it. More subtle, and given that it is not a case of urgently correcting an obvious error in this instance, I would suggest a note linking to the proposal at the talk age of the template that you would replace, another at the talk page of list of non-national etc etc or another relevant article, and maybe also at WT:FOOTY, and allow 5-7 days. Anyone who doesn't raise objections or proposals in that time frame has little to complain about. Avoid forked discussion: conduct any debate on one talk page, and send editors from other talk pages to that one. Good work. Kevin McE (talk) 07:44, 25 March 2009 (UTC)

Navboxes

{{helpme}} I'm trying to learn how to use navboxes. In my Sandbox I've created a navbox using collapsible groups (see the last of the 3). I want to be able to add notes to each individual group, rather than just using the <below> command as I have for the note about defunct teams.

Also, is there a way to make, for example, the 'Europe' group display uncollapsed on all the pages for teams in that group, with all the other groups collapsed? Hope that makes some sense, thanks Stu.W UK (talk) 00:56, 27 March 2009 (UTC)

There's a really good guide to this, in Help:Collapsing - I came across it when struggling with similar issues the other week. Well, actually I found it about an hour *after* I'd spent ages solving the problems...but - I think it will answer your question. Ok, after much playing around, it looks to me like you have 2 specific questions;

• 1. How to have separate reference lists for sections within a transclued template;

Answer: use grouped refs; Example solution: User:Chzz/stu1

• 2. Collapse sections of a table depending on cat membership

Answer: No idea; don't think it can be done

And hey, if you ever need ideas on what to do, just ask :-) How about this - loads of UK places need the geo coordinates adding. Articles on places etc should have the x/y coords of where they are, for cool linkys with maps etc. So - take a look at Category:England articles missing geocoordinate data. Maybe look at some place you know. Google it, look on maps...find the geo-coords (eg from Yahoo), and then add this to the page;

Remove the {{coord missing|Greater Something}}

Korean clubs

Hi. These Korean clubs are known as senior football clubs. Some of them paticipated Korean FA Cup qualification. You will find some of these club in some season of Korean FA Cup. the other clubs are competing various regional tournament in South Korea. In this page (sorry, I can't found English page. re: Suggestion

Will not work as FIFA attributes Czechoslovakias results and honours to both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. And seriously, I can't see the problem with showing the articles we have that fit the criteria of a template, its the system used on probably all sports. Fasach Nua is trying through some twisted logic (such as thinking he's making a smart point saying every version of a national team ever played is defunct) to hide articles readers will want to have easier access on, just as we don't hide the of the former leagues we shouldn't hide the national teams. And merging articles such as USSR/CIS/Russia I imagine could cause uproar by editors from other former Soviet Republics, there (as its used wiki-wide) seems to be a consensus for having separate articles for the countries that split into two, just as we keep articles on Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia we have articles that cover the national teams that represented them. And I have proposed to Fasach Nua on multiple times to propose merging of the articles but he's so far ignored it (because he probably thinks a proposal wouldn't go through), so until the articles we have on former teams don't exist anymore, they should not be hidden. chandler ··· 14:07, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

This comment is in response to the decision to delete this page.

I guess it may seem a fair option to delete this page, if these tournaments are not deemed notable. But I am not sure why they are not deemed notable. The tournaments were reported in the local newspapers of the time, some of which are available with a careful search on the internet. I can give links to reports on the Virgin Islands Championship as well. There is no question that they took place. The Leeward Islands Tournament was certainly notable, and has a history spanning over 50 years. It was the main international competitive outlet for the islands of the Leewards group until around 10 years ago. To that end, why, for example, are any small island teams notable? They are notable because they represent that island in international competition. Deleting any record of their existence appears a bit unusual. For example, the Leeward Islands tournament has provided the British Virgin Islands national team with their only ever international honour. I nominated the articles for deletion because I couldn't find much evidence that the competitions themselves were notable even in the leeward islands and/or virgin islands. If you have evidence of news reports of these games etc please provide them because that would show notability. I'm happy to help get these recreated as long as it can be shown these games happened and the teams were notable. Just a note - the main reason these tournaments are not well-known is that they ceased to be competed for in 2002, and internet resources in the Caribbean region were not exactly great pre-2002, even less so in the smaller islands of the Leewards group.

You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. Invite to the African Destubathon

Hi. You may be interested in participating in the African Destubathon which starts on October 15. Africa currently has over 37,000 stubs and badly needs a quality improvement editathon/contest to flesh out basic stubs. There are proposed substantial prizes to give to editors who do the most articles, and planned smaller prizes for doing to most destubs for each of the 53 African countries, so should be enjoyable! So it would be a good chance to win something for improving stubs on African sportspeople, including footballers, athletes, Olympians and Paralympians etc, particularly female ones, but also male. Even if contests aren't your thing we would be grateful if you could consider destubbing a few African articles during the drive to help the cause and help reduce the massive 37,000 + stub count, of which many are rated high importance (think Regions of countries etc). If you're interested in competing or just loosely contributing a few expanded articles on African Paralympians, Olympians and committees etc, please add your name to the Contestants/participants section.
