What is it like to live near Fleming Park?

Updated tower's name

[edit]

Based on information provided in the existing halifax.ca reference (last paragraph) and the (August 5, 2009) Chronicle Herald article, I have updated the tower's name from "Dingle Tower" to "Dingle Memorial Tower". I have however, decided to leave the "Dingle Tower" section-header as is (at least for now), to help avoid any possible WP:HEAD conflicts. -- WikHead (talk) 11:04, 5 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Dongle name

[edit]

Why was it commonly known as the dingle? Snowy Badger (talk) 00:36, 10 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I strongly suspect, given that, as the article mentions, Flemming called it *the* Dingle, that it referred to the topography, as a dingle is a type of dell, and that is reasonably appropriate to the park itself. The term "the Dingle," with the definite article, has been common my entire life in Halifax. None of this use of the article makes much sense if, per the current lede, the name came from Dingle, Ireland.
Not going to get into an edit war over this but I would regard the idea that it's named after one of the existing places called "Dingle" as rather out-on-a-limb unless some documentary source about Fleming indicated a connection to Dingle, Ireland. 134.41.20.147 (talk) 04:46, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
