How is it used by firefox?
[edit]Although Google claimed so, To me it seems just moz2d knows skia, Perhaps moz2d is not used by firefox anymore? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.34.207.54 (talk) 19:59, 20 October 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Sorry to write as anonymous, but I can't recall my password and wikipedia seems to have an old email or something. Anyway, if I understand correctly what I read here: http://groups.google.com/group/skia-discuss/browse_thread/thread/e8390a2b6d994130
Skia is now available under the same license as Chromium OS, which is BSD like... I'd edit the page myself, but I'd like others to confirm just in case I am misunderstanding something here. 68.16.163.211 (talk) 04:39, 24 August 2011 (UTC)
etymology?
[edit]Skia (σκιά) in Greek (both ancient and modern) means shadow. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lucinos (talk • contribs) 08:27, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Skia developer here. Shadow refers to drawing with a mask or canvas clip. Hal Canary (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC)
out of date information
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
- "(although partially superseded by HWUI starting with Android 3.0[2])," is now out of date as of Android 8 and 9. See https://www.xda-developers.com/google-android-q-vulkan-graphics-render-ui/ for more information. Hal Canary (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC) (Skia developer)
- "Partially implemented back-ends [...] are also available for OpenGL ES, OpenVG, SVG, and Adobe SWF (Flash)." This is also very out of date. Skia has four main backends: CPU Raster; GPU Raster (OpenGL, OpenGLES, Vulkan, Metal); PDF Document; and Picture (custom display list data structure). Skia also has experimental XPS and SVG backends. See https://skia.googlesource.com/skia/+/refs/heads/chrome/m77/site/user/api/skcanvas_creation.md Hal Canary (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC) (Skia developer)
- The path renderer section is out-of-date and is not a very important detail. Hal Canary (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC) (Skia developer)
- The canononical source is located at https://skia.googlesource.com/skia/, not github. (reference: https://skia.googlesource.com/skia/+/refs/heads/chrome/m77/site/index.md ) Hal Canary (talk) 13:43, 9 August 2019 (UTC) (Skia developer)

[edit]- To expedite your request, please provide the desired claims in the form of verbatim statements which can then be added to the article (if approved) by the reviewer. Exact, verbatim descriptions of any text to be removed should also be described.[1] Finally, the exact location where the desired claims are to be placed should be mentioned. An example edit request for how this is all to be done is shown below:

- Kindly open a new edit request at your earliest convenience when ready to proceed with the verbatim text and the placement locations.

Request 1
Please remove "(although partially superseded by HWUI starting with Android 3.0[2]),". That is now out of date as of Android 8 and 9. ref: https://www.xda-developers.com/google-android-q-vulkan-graphics-render-ui/ Hal Canary (talk) 14:14, 13 August 2019 (UTC) (Skia developer) Request 2

[edit]- Thank you for providing the verbatim text. That is much appreciated.
- Unfortunately, your edit request still could not be reviewed because the provided references are not formatted correctly.[a] The citation style predominantly used by the Skia Graphics Engine article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[b] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
Citation style
|
---|
In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the Skia Graphics Engine article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text should resemble the following:
In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, edit requests such yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review. |
Kindly rewrite your edit request so that it aligns more with the second example shown in the collapsed section above, and feel free to re-submit that edit request at your earliest convenience. Please note that only one {{request edit}}
template need be placed in a post where multiple requests are made. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards, Spintendo 18:53, 13 August 2019 (UTC)
Notes
- ^ The fault for this formatting error may have originated with the automated prompts used by the edit request template, which asks for a COI editor to "supply the URL of any references used". While the resulting omission of information would not be the fault of the requesting COI editor, it nevertheless remains their responsibility to supply the references formatted in the style used by the article.
- ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]

Guideline: It is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it.
