Working Will post this review shortly. Grondemar 00:29, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This is another well-written, albeit short article about a notable horse. I made a few copyedits and have the following comments that I would like to be resolved before I pass this article as a Good Article:

  • "Sired by Nick Shoemaker who was by Nick by Shiek P-11, Skipper W was out of Hired Girl, a daughter of Cowboy P-12. His second dam, or maternal grandmother, was Leche, who was also by Nick by Shiek P-11." There are too many "by"s there. Perhaps it would be better to rephrase? I can't tell if the horse's father is "Nick" and his grandfather is "Shiek P-11", or if his father is "Nick by Shiek P-11". Maybe even commas would help.
  • In the block quote, "That was also the year that the good movie, Showboat, came out and I name the little yellow colt after that picture." Is "name" right? If so, I'd suggest a (sic) or a [d].
  • "However, Skipper W's American Quarter Horse Association, or AQHA, show record does not show any record of these wins, which is not unusual for horses shown in the 1940s, as the record keeping was not always the best during the early years of the AQHA." Would this do better as a note? Although, the article is relatively short so I'll leave it up to you.
  • "the mares that he stood his stallions to" I guess this is a breeding reference, but it seems a little jargony.
  • Should the listed offspring be linked, even if it is a redlink for now?

Thank you. Grondemar 00:48, 20 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've dealt with some of the above. On the show record bit, I think it's probably fine in the body of the article. If I ever find more stuff to expand this article enough for FAC, I would probably move that information to a footnote. On the redlinks for the offspring - I'm not convinced about any of those offspring meeting the GNG standards - so I'd rather not redlink them just yet. I'm not convinced that winning a high point award is automatically notable - and unless I find articles written about those horses, they won't pass GNG... Looks good, thanks for addressing my concerns. I will pass this article now as a Good Article. Congratulations! Grondemar 04:05, 21 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I know this is a Good Article so I just made minimal changes. I carefully replaced two broken AQUA links. Changed text that said the horse will be inducted into the hall of fame into the horse was inducted. And added the category AQHA Hall of Fame (horses). dawnleelynn(talk) 18:37, 2 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
