August 2019 vandalism[edit]

Lots of vandalism of this page stems from the popular YouTuber Davie504. He has posted a blog post on YouTube showing this wikipedia page and many viewers are trying to vandalise and change this Wikipedia page. Perhaps we should leave this page as is, lock it. But we should keep what the community and Wikipedia users see as a fair definition, the slapping of bass guitars. Don't think such a definition exists. A quick DDG and Google search mentions nothing about that specific definition of "slapper" meaning "someone who slaps the bass" (Merriam-Webster^wp Oxford^wp) besides Urban Dictionary, which is user generated. Only thing relevant elsewhere I could find is this, but doesn't call them "slappers". Regardless, this is most likely a thing only to Davie504's fans, and Wikipedia isn't a dictionary anyway. theinstantmatrix (talk) 22:02, 22 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

You fail to understand that language is not something that is set in stone. It is constantly changing, new slang terms appear every day, and the internet is a viable source of these slang terms. But that is besides the point. I've been playing bass for years, years before the YouTuber Davie504 reached popularity, and in my experience, "slapper" is a common colloquial term used in the music community to refer to a bassist who primarily uses the slapping playing style. I do not understand how putting the term in the disambiguation page is incorrect other than the stubborn and admittedly close minded viewpoint of "A YouTuber uses the term, so it's not viable."
