Nickname origin?

[edit]

Doubt that anyone herein cares he is said to have died same day as Stanley Dunham (better known as Anne Dunham better known as Mom Obama). But surely I can't be the only one curious as to the origin of White's colorful stage name Slappy... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.134.178.92 (talk) 05:22, 29 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Earlier Composition

[edit]

According to the book "Class Act: The Jazz Life of Choreographer Cholly Atkins", Clarence Schelle, as "Little Zeph", was one of the original members of the Two Zephyrs; the other one, Big Zeph, had passed away, which was the reason why, in the 1940s, "Slappy" White joined the group to replace him.

I've seen an advertisement for the Bally Reliance from 1936 in which the Two Zephyrs are pictured, so I have that confirmation the group existed prior to the 1940s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Quadibloc (talkcontribs) 18:02, 4 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
