removed extremely inappropriate language

[edit]

I have voted to delete this article, but whether it stands up to deletion, or is deleted, the language in the section on pharmacological sleep aids contained language that was extremely dangerous to put in any article on WP. this is why we cannot provide how to manuals. if this page was found printed out next to someone who had died following using sleep pills where there was any evidence that they had not followed instructions, and the article was up here for more than a few days, WP could be liable for negligence. well, at least thats my hypervigilant, non lawyer gut instinct. and as i said in the deletion review, if someone wants to entirely rewrite this, or add some content to another article, fine. but, no matter what, NO STATEMENTS THAT SLEEP PILLS WORK JUST FINE. hey, now we are giving advice NOT to take sleeping pills? and what if someone has insomnia, decides to not take a prescribed pill due to our site, and goes psychotic? in other words, DONT GIVE MEDICAL ADVICE. JEEZ, what is wrong here?Mercurywoodrose (talk) 22:06, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that we are covered by the disclaimer, but i do believe we have to reword articles which come across as giving advice. "x is often prescribed" is ok, "you can take x" is not. But i think you know that, im just stating it here for others to read. My language above was probably somewhat extreme, but i am somewhat passionate about making sure people get good information on what works for sleep (or doesnt), and since its a huge risk to mental health to not have proper sleep, and since medications to help are often seen as harmless (as in "im not a drug addict, i need this for sleep"), this article needs to be balanced as much as possible. ive added some summary statements on valerian, melatonin, rozerem, tryptophan, and the main articles should adequately cover them.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 19:55, 30 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Valium vs Valerian

[edit]

Is this correct? The herb Valerian, from which the drug Valium was derived, has effects similar to the benzodiazepine family."" — Preceding unsigned comment added by 137.120.186.29 (talk) 11:15, 18 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
