Wazenberg Castle/Mansion[edit]

The building is described as a mansion (dvorec) at this page as well as here. The name Dob Castle would probably be more appropriate for Gradič Dob in Dobja Vas.[1]

I'm also not sure about the relationship between Dob I [2] and Dob II.[3] See also these snippets: [4], [5], [6].

The third link (No. 3, Dob II) mentions the village od Dob, which makes me think that Dob was a separate village in the past.

One of the sources mentioned above states that the former name of the village was Straža pri Šentrupertu, not Nemška Vas.[7] On the other hand, Straža, Šentrupert still exists in the immediate vicinity. The distinction between a manor and a castle is often arbitrary in English; I wouldn't use mansion in this case because it has a very un-fortified sound to it (also, the Valvasor illustration is very castle-like with the corner towers, but it could reasonably be called a manor too). The structure is often referred to as a castle (Schloß) in German sources. According to the 1900 census (p. 85, note 4.25), Dob (Wazenberg) and Slovenska Vas (Nemška vas, Deutschdorf) were both part of Straža at the time. I don’t know when Slovenska Vas became independent of Straža, but apparently Dob remained part of Slovenska Vas when that occurred. The relationship between the Dob I and Dob II buildings is also not entirely clear to me. The www.slosi.info pages seem to say that Dob I was razed in the 17th century and Dob II built as a replacement structure in the same site. Perhaps a local printed source or museum would be able to provide more precise information. Doremo (talk) 11:35, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
