Fair use rationale for Image:S&w m&p semi-auto.jpg[edit]

Image:S&w m&p semi-auto.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:15, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

well the infobox image is definatly jacked from IMFDB.org and it's copyrighted there so it needs to go. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.30.21.179 (talk) 03:45, 28 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

double action only?[edit]

Is the M+P dao? CorvetteZ51 (talk) 10:57, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Trigger (firearms) article describes pre-set triggers. The article mentions the M&P is striker fired and contains an internal link to the pre-set trigger part of the previously mentioned article.--Francis Flinch (talk) 15:29, 1 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The term DAO literally translates as 'double action only'. Early striker fired pistols such as the Smith & Wesson Sigma can be tagged with this label as the act of pulling the trigger moved the striker rearward then forward as the hook was released by the sear hence the double movement or double action. The M&P by nature of the action of the slide cycling preloads the strikes and no further reqarward movement is evident before sear release so the term 'DAO' would not apply in this case. The term 'striker fired' is more accurate. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.142.24.239 (talk) 06:33, 16 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

M&P 22[edit]

The sidebar for this weapon lists 22lr as one of the available chamberings, but this is not mentioned elsewhere in the article, such as the chart of variants. I have one of these beside me and it varies considerably in its internals from the main M&P line. It fires from an internal hammer, not a striker. It has a thumb safety. It does not have interchangeable back-straps. It comes with only one mag. Should this be added here or should there be (is there?) a separate entry for the M&P 22? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.200.196 (talk) 16:43, 18 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and added the paragraph under variants since no one commented. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.200.196 (talk) 01:25, 13 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I've noticed that Francis Flinch came along and added a lengthier segment describing the function of the M&P22 in some detail. This description is in the middle of a list of variants that mostly just list the differences rather than describe the details of the function. This lengthy description seems out of place in the list. Perhaps the M&P22, being a substantially different design that is even manufactured by a different company ought to have its own page? If no one objects I will make a new page and move much of that commentary to the new page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.168.200.196 (talk) 21:01, 12 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FDE Frames[edit]

Hi, I updated the M&P Compact information in the table. FDE frames are available in 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45 ACP. Morgan Phoenix (talk) 01:28, 10 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Preserving here by providing this link. My rationale was: "excessive list on nn variants in infobox; uncited wp:promo; unneeded bolding; mv tag". --K.e.coffman (talk) 01:30, 22 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Another recent edit[edit]

I did the edit with this timestamp: 01:32, 24 September 2023‎. I don't know if it conflicts with sources cited, but I made the edit because the sentence stating, "At this point, the sear is held back in a partially cocked condition," is factually incorrect--sears are not cocked. A sear is what holds back a striker or hammer, and is what moves to release said striker or hammer when the trigger is pulled. The striker however can indeed be cocked, as is already noted later in the paragraph. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.174.16.190 (talk)
