Material?

[edit]

What is the material composition of this substance? Also, the article seems to indicate that green is the natural color of this foam, which is almost certainly incorrect. Freederick 13:33, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, to answer my own question, sort of: the manufacturer's site says it is “phenolic foam”. I always thought phenolic resin was hard brittle thermosetting stuff like bakelite, but evidently it can be made in crushable hygroscopic foam form. This material, BTW, is superb for dioramas if you are a scale modeller; but I have misgivings against putting that factoid in the article proper since it is original research. It's been discussed in Xtreme Modelling but it has durability issues. Some people soak it in glue to make up for its lack of structural integrity, but you can also buy modelling foam that is sturdy but easy to carve and etch which works well for stone and polymer clay which is much easier to get to look convincing as ground or muddy terrain.

I always thought this stuff was weird, it just feels weird, and has a funny smell, probably tastes weird too.

Not disposing of it properly

[edit]

So, how to dispose of it properly then, pray tell? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.61.180.106 (talk) 23:21, 12 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
