Company or beer…?

This article seems to mix the use of “Smithwick’s” for the company and the beer at will, to some confusion, e.g.: Smithwick's [the brewery] was founded by John Smithwick in 1710. It[pronoun should refer back to the brewery, but actually context means the beer] was originally brewed… etc. It’s also hard to reconcile that the history laid out, stretching back centuries, relates to a beer which was “originally created as a special brew for the first Kilkenny Beer Festival”, which itself was founded in 1972.
