Pimpernel Gold (book)[edit]

Marie McSwigan (May 22, 1896 – July 16, 1962) was a writer from Pittsburgh, PA who is primarily known for her book Snow Treasure. Marie McSwigan wrote ten children’s books and the biography of St. Nicholas of Flue, Switzerland's patron saint. McSwigan also is known for Sky Hooks: The Autobiography of John Kane. John Kane was a self-taught Pittsburgh artist and his story was written by Marie McSwigan as “it fell from his lips” during the last two years of his life. McSwigan came to know Kane through her work as a newspaper reporter. She interviewed him when he was an artist in the 1927 Carnegie International. From there, a friendship and trust was established and McSwigan wrote down Kane’s life story as he told it to her.

McSwigan graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 1919 and did graduate work at Columbia University. She worked for the Pittsburgh Press and then for the Pittsburgh Sun-Telegraph newspapers. She was President of Women’s Press Club of Pittsburgh. McSwigan also did publicity for Kennywood Amusement Park, Carnegie Institute Department of Fine Arts, and the University of Pittsburgh.
