Massive, massive spoilers in the character synopses[edit]

Do we really need to include information that is 10+ volumes into the story on the character synopsis? In particular, the main character stuff ruins a massive moment for anyone browsing Wikipedia, even if it is to just get information on the ISBN information. Abhorrent spoilers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 148.75.233.147 (talk) 15:15, 12 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with the previous person[edit]

I was reading this article to get a general idea of the story to see if I would be interested in reading the light novels. I didn't expect that in basic character introductions there would be enormous plot spoilers with no spoiler warning at all. You shouldn't say things that happen very far into the story in these types of basic overview articles, especially without any warning! Thanks for ruining the story for me! Seriously... what the hell were you thinking? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 113.32.244.49 (talk) 12:23, 20 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia used to have spoiler warnings, but around 2007 a discussion to remove them flared up seemingly out of nowhere, apparently started by a small number of editors, who going by how they went about things (also off-wiki) had a lack of empathy that makes me question their sanity. Even though most people were opposed to removing the spoiler warnings, as was I, in the end they had more clout and they didn't care, not even a little, about the feelings of readers would inevitably and unnecessarily get spoilers revealed to them. In fact, in some cases I strongly suspect that they enjoyed the prospect and that this was their goal.
Some of the other wikis still have spoiler warnings, but the English one does not. Do not read any wiki article about anything that could be related (even tangentially) to a work of fiction you still intend to enjoy. This doesn't only apply to the article about the work itself, e.g. if one character name is an alias for another, then even if this isn't supposed to be known to the reader, Wikipedia will brutally redirect the alias to the reveal. Wikipedia might even reveal the ending of a movie in an article about the director or one of the actors. Remember that all information on Wikipedia is available elsewhere (otherwise it gets removed for being unreferenced) so there is no actual need to visit Wikipedia at all. And other sites are usually better than Wikipedia in this regard. Wikipedia might be convenient, but you'll have to weigh the convenience against the risk on a case-by-case basis.
And yes, all of this is fucked up. It shouldn't be necessary to warn people away from Wikipedia, but I've tried and failed. If you care, then please, please make a big stink and try to get spoiler warnings back. But if you're the kind of person who tends to get emotionally invested in things, I'd strongly advise against it, because the odds are worse today than back then. Al lot of the dysfunctional people I obliquely refer to are still around, some of them admins, and now you'll probably need developer support to search for spoiler warnings in old page revisions and put them back. And the developers are some of the most unhelpful people on the planet.
