Untitled

This is an Arabic phrase? I've heard native English speakers use it all my life. Marnanel 00:46, 21 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding another definition

[edit]

The first line currently says: Euphemistic, a person or thing regarded as unpleasant or difficult. It can also refer be used in a non-Euphemistic sense to accost an individual who the person believes name is not worthy of mention. Well I would say that is one use of the term, but not the primary use, and definitely not the only use. In my experience in North America at least, it is frequently used to refer to an unspecified person, for example when you forgot someone's name or are referring to a hypothetical person. In fact, most dictionaries list "an unspecified person" or "someone whose named is forgotten" as the first definition. Thesauri list it as synonymous with "what's-his-name". Therefore, I am going to edit the page to include this use. Hopefully no one objects. I just figured I would explain my reasoning here in case anyone is curious about the change. -MsBatfish (talk) 01:23, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Update: I added the entry:
  • So and so (or "so & so"), a Placeholder name used for someone who is unspecified, unknown or whose name is forgotten.
(I also copy-edited the "Euphemistic" entry for clarity). -MsBatfish (talk) 01:56, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

The entry for So & So Journal went to an external website, which WP:Disambiguation#What not to include says is not allowed on a disambiguation page. Quote:

External links
Never include external links, either as entries or in descriptions. Disambiguation pages disambiguate Wikipedia articles, not the World Wide Web. To note URLs that might be helpful in the future, include them on the talk page.

So I am moving it here in case there is ever an article on Wikipedia about it. If that happens, the entry can be re-added with the appropriate internal link. The entry read:

  • So & So Journal, a webzine art-directed and edited by designer, Alasdair Monk.

Thanks. -MsBatfish (talk) 01:42, 20 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
