On the supported Operating Systems of SOFTIMAGE|3D[edit]

Notwithstanding the fact that SOFTIMAGE|3D version 4.0 was released in the midst of the transition to SOFTIMAGE|XSI and therefore its userbase was already decimated by then, I am of the opinion that the article should include GNU/Linux as one of its supported operating systems. To back my claim, I have uploaded to archive.org a copy of the product datasheet (here) which reads [sic]: "SOFTIMAGE|3D v.4.0 is certified for Windows NT, IRIX and LINUX operating systems"; furthermore, if one takes into account the information published at the support page for the aforementioned release (available at web.archive.org), not only did this last version add support for GNU/Linux (Red Hat Linux, to be more precise), but it also added support for Microsoft Windows XP Professional, whereas previous releases of SOFTIMAGE|3D were only available for SGI IRIX, Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 (as of SI|3D 3.0, c. 1996), and Microsoft Windows NT 5.0 (as of SI|3D 3.9, c. 2000).

Addendum, AWN.com cited an animator at Industrial Light & Magic saying that "SOFTIMAGE|3D on Linux is a top 3D animation system". June, 2002.

Fair use rationale for Image:Soft3DLogo.png[edit]

Image:Soft3DLogo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
