Sohar Ship
[edit]There appears to be a ship along the lines of a Caravel in history called a Sohar. I do not know if it is important enough to have a page or not, so here is a note about it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.81.7.217 (talk) 03:35, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
- You're correct about the ship. A replica (photo) currently sits in the Al Bustan traffic rotary in Muscat. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 16:21, 20 May 2012 (UTC)
- Tim Severin's ship Sohar was a faithful reconstruction of a sewn ship, or traditional dhow (called a 'trankie' by the British in the C19th) used in the Sindbad Voyage. It had not a single nail in it, but was sewn together with 400 miles of coir rope sourced from the Laccadive Islands. The ship on the roundabout outside the Al Bustan is, in fact, not a replica but Severin's actual ship! Best Alexandermcnabb (talk) 15:31, 9 November 2022 (UTC)
Some serious trouble in Sohar (February 2010)
[edit]An expert might want to add this news about protests (and deaths) to the Sohar page: [1] Wilson44691 (talk) 00:56, 28 February 2011 (UTC)
