Dates[edit]

This article is missing information on when things happened, e.g. when was the initial free routing proposed, when was it defeated, when was the reduced "Somerset freeway" proposal defeated, etc. I don't even know in what decade some of these events occurred.--Srleffler 21:31, 6 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The connection to I-287 in Piscataway was still expected to occur as late as the late 1970s, as seen as dotted lines on maps printed then, but was soon removed in the 1980s. Nothing really changed until the 1990s when the NJ turnpike was subtly signed "I-95" from exit 10 to exit 6 (apparently in 1997). In the early 2000s, I-287 exits were renumbered. Prior to the renumbering, former Exit 1 of I-287 was where the Somerset Freeway was to connect (now the new Exit 5, I believe), and the section of I-287 between former exit 1 and the NJ Turnpike would become I-95. As this was abandoned, the exits could finally be renumbered, starting with the Turnpike (Exit 0), and Route 1, (New Exit 1).
It doesn't say anywhere that though I-95 will (hopefully) be continuous one day, through Philadelphia to the current non-interchanging crossover of the PA Turnpike, across the Delaware, to exit 6 of the NJ Turnpike, and north, the best route from New England to Delaware and Maryland will still be to take the NJ Turnpike all the way to exit 1, and reconnect with I-95 in Delaware. This is because the torturous route through the city of Philadelphia is simply hideous. The new connector will be a good one, but it would have been easier to simply renumber the best route "I-95", but I suppose the Philadelphians wouldn't be thrilled with the idea of renumbering their precious clogged I-95 with a less prestigious number.Njsustain (talk) 21:28, 31 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"North Jersey Expressway"[edit]

There is currently only one mention of "North Jersey Expressway" in the article, and that states that the road was killed. No mention before that, which I found confusing, since the term "Somerset Freeway" is the only term used before that point. I would fix this, but I don't know enough about the topic. Could this please be clarified? SchuminWeb (Talk) 06:12, 22 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
