Li Yu (Liyu)[edit]

What about Liyu (937-978), a poet of Ci? See Wik on Li Houzhu (another name for him). 211.225.30.91 (talk) 11:59, 25 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Although, Li Yu indeed was a great exponent and developer of the Ci poetry form, there is also some difficulty in categorizing him as a Song poet: he was actually the ruler of the Southern Tang state; which, state was vanquished by the early Song, as a part of the Tang-Song transition (and he was personally imprisoned and forced to commit suicide by the Song). In fact, the Southern Tang state is more of a continuation of Tang than a precursor to Song. How does this affect the poetic categorization of of Li Yu (Li Houzhu)? Li Yu represents both a continuation of the Tang poetry tradition and he is also a major contributor to the Ci style, with which Song poetry is especially associated. In fact, the most encyclopedic approach is undoubtedly to include Li Yu under both Tang and Song poetry. --User:Dcattell 11 Sep 2011
