MERGE/MOVE? Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie) and Sonic the Hedgehog the comic

How would people feel about moving this article to "Sonic the Hedgehog the Comic", or something similar, and using Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie) to talk about what Sonic the character has done in the Archie comic? It seems silly that information about what the Archie Sonic has done just shows up in bits and pieces in other character's articles. At this point there's so many years of history about the Archie version of Sonic that it probably deserves its own article (we could keep the small section listed under the main Sonic the Hedgehog article, but put a "see main article" linking here), and Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie) does seem like the place to put it.D1Puck1T 17:34, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I agree that it's annoying having miscellaneous aspects of the Archie character included in Sonic the Hedgehog (character), particularly in the "Relationships" section - I would prefer that article to be focused on the games' version.
  • Agree. D1Puck1T 07:33, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

Page has been moved by me. Let's give people some time to fix links to Sonic the Hedgehog (Archie) before making it a disambiguation page. --DavidHOzAu 02:09, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I've updated half of them, but it is 1630 local time, and I've had enough of wikiediting for one day. I'd appreciate it if someone else could clean up the rest. --DavidHOzAu 06:32, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Comic History?

More dates for the comic's run would be useful, as well as the development. The early issues, for example, which preceded the Dic cartoon series in publication (both of them), were more comedic, featured significant differences in certain character designs (Princess Sally was pink), included one-panel gag comics, etc, and it wasn't until later that gradually elements from the Saturday morning series which had (apparently) been more or less based off of it became more dominant, and eventually the more "anime" artistic style took over. The "comic" syndicated Sonic series maintained the tone and adapted three of the villains from the comics (and game), etc. I'm not enough of a hardcore Sonic fan to track these developments, but it would seem worth noting. *Especially* run dates, dates for spin-off titles if known, etc. Aleal 23:41, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

(Note: I'm not sure which section to put this in-this one seemed best) All right, who was the wise guy who put that the Shadow the Hedgehog comic version (of the video game) was put in STH #170? All that's in that issue is 'Comings and Goings' and the other story. Trust me, it's not there. --Glitch Freak

list

Can someone help me make a list of all issues cuse I only have from around 120 or so to 160 and a couple are missing --Thunderman30 01:23, 3 April 2006 (UTC)

Sure. STH#120. STH#121. STH#122. I think you get my point. --Glitch Freak

There are numerous lists on the internet and in printed media (price guides), but the most you're going to get is the comic number and possibly some story titles... not sure what you're hoping to accomplish. --Poet  Talk  04:36, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

No

NO... just put links to this page on a "sonic the hedgehog" main entry.

"Consistent level of quality"?

"The comic is generally regarded as having more a more consistent level of quality than Sonic the Comic, which technically published more issues despite running for a shorter time."

That's a potentially controversial statement that seems to be weasel worded. Unless someone can back it up with a reference, it should be rephrased or deleted. --Jtalledo (talk) 18:37, 7 June 2006 (UTC)

Huh?

"Sonic the Hedgehog is an ongoing series of American comic books published by Archie Comics, featuring Sega's mascot video game character Sonic."

I believe it can't just say that "Sonic the Hedgehog is a [...] comic book". It makes i look like the comic is first or somehow originated the game or something odd. Shouldn't it say somehow that Sonic the Hedgehog is a game that has 'spin off'ed a comic book by the same name; Also, have a "this article is about the comics, for the game see ___, for the 2006 game, see ___." ???? 200.230.213.152 17:59, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Wha? I don't really see what you're talking about. It doesn't seem to allude to the games being made from the comic, or vice-versa for that matter. Please explain better. Maybe it's just me. 63.114.53.1 14:15, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Knuckles Comic

Shouldn't the former Knuckles the Echidna comic series have its own page, albeit the series itself is cancelled? Hope(N Forever) 07:17, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Ken Penders

Just to let you all know, Ken Penders hasn't been with Archie Comics for quite a few months now. Hence why his name is edited out of the Wiki. --Eternalslumber 21:33, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Irrelevant. It's a list of everyone to have worked on the book, not ones currently working on it.D1Puck1T 22:36, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

A wikia for this comics series

I have recently proposed the making of an Archie-based wikia and hope that it will predominatly be for this particular comics series (as well as the spinoff Knuckles the Echidna, Super Specials, mini series, etc). For those that wish to support this site's creation and would like to add to it, visit this page: http://requests.wikia.com/wiki/Archipedia#Request_form and support the creation. Once it gets approval, article creation and edits can begin immidiatly. Given the vast amount of articles already on wikipedia from this series, there is more than enough info for the Archie site, only it will require referencing of issues, etc. Hope you join in the creation and (should it be approved) expansion of the site's articles. - 99.247.253.203 01:15, 10 August 2007 (UTC)

MileStone Issues

You know, the 25n (n being some integer) issues do not have to be the only mile stone issues!!

  1. 71: Retro Activity

This issue featured the signature change from original Sonic to "Green Eyed, Gold Buckled Shoes Sonic"! This is definitly a classic. What's more, this issue is the first (and only) to run the story line backwards (and actually has the back-up story come first!).

This is a must, and I am going to include it. I'll look for others in due time ( I have issues 15 through 160, so I do fancy myself an expert on this article...cocky if I must be :-) )

Gagueci 23:41, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

I am also going to include summaries for why they are milestone issue, and also I took out the sentence about #200 being the next possible milestone issue.

So what if it's a classic? It's only for MILESTONE issues. Not for issues that people think are milestones because they are classics. That's POV and is not welcome on Wikipedia. Opinions do not replace facts. Get it together. Dylanlip (talk) 02:16, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

Story Line Summary

I have composed what I believe is a good summary for the Comic book series thus far. I have detailed heavily what I feel to be the more important areas of the story line, as well as including bits and pieces of relevant information here and there. No doubt I am missing events and probably mentioning of key events and characters. That is why I am posting it here for now, to see the reaction of everyone and perhaps further input. In the end, I would like to know if this should be included.

Here it is:

START

The original issues of the series and those soon to follow consisted mostly of isolated stories. That is, there was rarely any continuity between issues. However, there were the additions of new characters (such as Bunny Rabbot, Knuckles, and Super Sonic) that would become familiar and lasting faces as the series continued. The early issues featured much of Sonic versus Robotnik, in which Sonic would constantly foil Robotnik’s plans whether it be to tear down a forest or find the hidden location of knothole village. Eventually though, the issues started to gain a sense of an ongoing story, most notably with the addition of the Mecha Sonic story line in issue 39, in which Sonic is transformed into a robotic form and does as Robotnik commands. This would later be concluded in a Sonic Special issue where knuckles gives himself up to be transformed into a robot in order to defeat Mecha Sonic. From here, the story line would be further developed into what is now a fully continuous one. Following the defeat of Mecha Sonic, the Freedom Fighters come together in issue 46 to discuss ways to attack and defeat Robotnik once and for all. The loyalty of many of the Freedom Fighters comes into question, particularly notable in a feud between Sonic and Geoffrey Saint John, member of the Acorn secret service. This continues into the renowned End Game saga which takes place over a four issue span, 47 through 50.

The saga begins with a mission by the Freedom Fighter and the Wolf Pack, led by Loupe, to attack Robotnik’s base. Princess Sally reveals thoughts of her father, King Acorn, telling her that it would soon become apparent that Sonic is a traitor. The mission proceeds and Sally is in need of help or she may fall to her death. The Freedom Fighters look on in despair when they think they see Sonic and assume that he will rescue the princess. Much to their surprise, Sonic aids Sally in falling to her death. The mission is called to retreat, and the Freedom Fighters move back to Knothole village. Meanwhile, Sonic is seen battling Robotnik inside the base (when he apparently left Sally for dead). Robotnik escapes and Sonic leaves the base wondering where the rest of his companions have gone. Sonic returns to Knothole only to be arrested and spared the death penalty in light of all his services, so instead is sentenced to life in prison on the Devil’s Gulag, where other notorious traitors such as Sleuth Doggy Dog (Issue 42) will be imprisoned with him. While Sonic is being transported to the Gulag, Swatbots attack the vessel and it crash lands. Sonic remains conscience and takes the opportunity to escape. News bears word and king Acorn demands the recapture of Sonic by Saint John. Sonic on the run, takes refuge in a cavern. Meanwhile, Bunny and Antoine discover that Drago (a member of the Wolf Pack) has been working with Robotnik in order to frame Sonic. This is followed by king Acorn issuing Robotnik as his new Warlord. Sonic, in the meantime, continues his run from Saint John and the secret service with aid from Dulcy the Dragon. Robotnik reveals his duplicate of the king by making it self destruct and the true plan has become evident to all. All this would lead up to Sonics return to Knothole in issue 50, where Sonic clears his name heads to a final showdown with Robotnik. As the issue notes, Sonic is uncharacteristically devoid of humor as he approaches Robotnik. In the battle, Robotnik’s ultimate annihilator crashes and the room is destined for destruction, but Robotnik and Sonic remain to fight. In the end, Sonic emerges victorious and Robotnik dies. Sonic later revives Sally with a kiss.

Story lines continue to follow after the End Game saga. Ixas Nagaus makes his first appearance in issue 53. Although temporarily defeated, he would later return in issues 64 through 66, along with the appearance of Nate Morgan, former advisor of king Acorn, and Ixis would be defeated this time by Ultra Sonic, one of Sonics transformations.

Issue 75 reveals that a robotic version of Robotnik has been functioning since after the defeat of the original Robotnik in issue 50. His presence is revealed by flashbacks to certain issues between issues 50 and 75. Sonic and the Freedom Fighters head to space to battle this Robo Robotnik, and although they defeat him, there are many other Robo Robotniks standing in line. These Robotniks are what has now become Sonics familiar enemy, Eggman.

Sonic Adventure is readily adapted into the series with the appearance of Chaos, beginning in issue 79. The saga ends with Sonic successfully defeating Perfect Chaos, the final form of Chaos after absorbing all of the emeralds, by transforming into Super Sonic in issue 84. Sonic does not actually destroy Chaos, as Chaos returns to his ancient beginnings to live in peace.

Issues 85 and 86 feature the return of Mecha Sonic (though not Sonic himself this time, but a totally separate machine.)

Sonic Adventure Two comes into adaptation for one issue featuring Shadow the Hedgehog.

In issue 125, Sonics latest battle leaves him stranded in space after saving Knothole. On Mobius, he is assumed to be dead. Sonics journey through space leads up to many interesting story lines, such as the return of Super Sonic in issue 126, and Sonics discovery that Tails parents are still alive on a far off planet. Sonic returns in issue 130 where he reveals to everyone that he is indeed alive and well.

Issues 131 through 144 introduce a sub story line in which the future of Mobius is the plot. In this future, Sonic is king of Knothole and married to Sally. Knuckles has attained the rank of Guardian and is married to Julie Su. However all is not well as the timeline is in danger of collapsing into destruction. Sonic and Knuckles try with the help of Rotor to prevent this catastrophe, but fail and the time line and story line come to an end.

Issue 145 features the return of Shadow, who then returns to take part of the story line, frequently battling Sonic in issues 157 through 161.

The comic series continues to move along with recent events such as the destruction of the Ancient Walkers and continuing battles with Robotnik.

END

Alright, I'll put it in for now, I realize it is somewhat long, so feel free to go nuts in choping it down (the whole if you feel so, but please give a reason here. ) Gagueci 00:49, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

Why isn't there a storyline summary on the Wiki page? My friend has written a great summary and I'd like to add it as a section to the page. We'll edit it to make it fit for Wikipedia and of course it could be continuously edited by others once it's up. E102Gamma (talk) 18:11, 23 April 2008

Timeline and retcon

I think that the reason for the huge time/date difference is from the writers wanting to go for more of a sci-fi storyline in the future, rather than a futuristic middle-ages type storyline. Since the year 3235 is actually quite close in science fiction, it would make more sense to have it take place beyond the year 14,000 (around the year 14,016). Now, this could also be that the writers doubted technology could advance that far in only 1200 years or so, and they wanted to have more time to let technology evolve (since Mobius is a "future earth", as told in Issue 125 and Super Special 7), as well as to give time for the Mobians and Echidnas time to evolve from their current, non-anthropomorphized forms and into their comic, anthropomorphized forms.

I agree that the year meaning being "3235 years after the Xorda gene-bombs/Echidna-Downunda Days of Fury", which could mean that the drastic destruction of the earth took place around the year 11,000. It is the same as how we base our current CE calendar as 2000 years after the birth of Jesus, or around that time frame...so, the comic would be based on the "Days of Fury" as chronicled by the echidnas and furs in Downunda. Archives

Could someone please help me out here? While this page lists the "Archives" reprint series as going up to nine issues, according to my library, Barnes & Noble, & Google Books, Volumes 7 - 9 do not exist. I would really like to get my hands on this book, and if it's an error in the page it should be changed, so does anyone actually have a copy of these books? Is it real? - AnimationCafe (talk)

Yes it's real, I was the one that edited it, check Amazon. I have Volume 7 on my shelf with all of the others and Volume 8 pre-ordered. - Galaxydragon (talk)

Adaptions

OK, so it says there was a comic made for Sonic and The Secret Rings. Can someone please provide a little more info on that? There is nothing about this on the page for the game, even though other games' pages mention comic adaptions. I gotta know how this comic was released and where i can find one so i can get my hands on a copy for my collection. The Great Morgil (talk) 16:45, 3 March 2009 (UTC)

Specials, Miniseries, and Knuckles series

This section in the article mentions that issue 0 was the first and issue 1 was the second (despite issue 1 claiming to be the first).

In actuality the issue 0 was released as a promotion of the first issue and so it makes sense that issue 1 claims to be the first (since it technically was if you don't count the promo).

Am I being too technical here or should this information be updated? --Poet  Talk  04:30, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Technically, #0/4 was the "first" issue, though it was a promotional issue given away by Burger King and had a preview of the "main" story of #0, without the extra back-up story, then came #1-#3 (Limited Series), then came #1 (Regular Series). But #0 (Limited Series) and #1 (Regular Series) are two different issues. TyVulpine (talk) 00:03, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

Bollers interview

Karl Bollers gave an interview about this:

WhisperToMe (talk) 13:51, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Needs a new section.

There has been a lot of criticism of the Archie comics adaptation of Sonic, mainly about how everything is so badly screwed up in comparison to the video game. (Pardon my language.) Here's some criticisms:

  • In the video game, Sonic is single, with Amy Rose his fangirl; in the comic, he is a womanizer whose main love interest is Sally Acorn.
    • Not to mention that in the video games, Amy is 12, while in the comics, she is, like, a six-year-old put in a 14-year-old's body or something.
      • Don't forget: Sonic is 17 in the comics instead of being 15 like in the games.
  • Eggman Robotnik looks completely different.
  • In the video game, Tails is eight; in the comics, it's hard to tell whether he's four (he cries quite a few times) or a teen (need I mention Fiona Fox?).

And I could go on. Either make a "criticisms" section or a "differences between the video games" section. ~[thehappyspaceman]talkstalkblock 23:42, 13 January 2012 (UTC)
