As far as I've been able to tell the TRV900 will not act as a analog to digital converter. If you have the TRV900 in VCR mode and connect it to a computer via firewire the computer will only detect the dv input if you are playing or recording a DV tape.

A smaller chip does not alter colour reproduction but results in less light sensitiveness. The fact, that the TRV950 inhibits even more pixels in its smaller chips does stress this issue even further. So the pixels are not bigger but smaller.
