Ambiguous Sentence[edit]

It is not ambiguous, and it is a significant aspect of a creative performers personality as well as their sense of self esteem. The link to SYLs MySpace Blog is helpful but should the link to a commercial site SHORTBUS be here? I have added a Blog link that discusses her early life in Vancouver. The filmography here is woefully deficient, by the way. RJJ

I think the above comment may refer to the ungrammatical 'identified'(?) You identify yourself, or are identified as, or identify with, no? LGBT categories[edit]

This article is in categories such as Category:LGBT musicians, Category:Bisexual actors, etc. I might have missed something, but I don't see where in the article or the sources she is actually described as bisexual. Can anyone find a source where she identifies as such? If not, per WP:BLP, these categories should be removed. Robofish (talk) 20:55, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Her given age range[edit]

Okay, so she doesn't want to give her age. I'm guessing that's because she's a bit older than most people think she is. But even throwing that assumption out the window, anyone who read the wiki article and did the math would figure out that 26 is way too young.

The article states that in the late eighties she was the leader singer in the band Bob's Your Uncle. The wiki page for that band gives the impression that she was a founding member of the group. It goes on to state that they released the single "Talk to the Birds" in 1985. If she were actually 26 years old today, she'd have been born in 1987, making her age negative two when the song was released, and only eight years old when the band's last album came out in 1993. It's safe to say, therefore, that she is not 26 years old today, and has not been that age for some time.

Furthermore, the wiki article on her stated that her "upbringing was within a strict, secretive and unstable family." Therefore I think it's safe to assume that she did not front that band until after she ran away from home. The article states that she was 15 when she left her family. Assuming that there was little or no time gap between departing the family domicile and joining the band in either 1985 as the band's wiki page states, or "in the late 1980s", as her own wiki article contends, she would have been 15 sometime between 1985 and 1989 (the latter date assuming the "late 1980s" date of her joining the band is accurate). That would mean she was either born, at the very latest, in 1974, making her, at the very youngest, 39 (or due to turn 39 this year), or possibly born as early as 1970 - making her 15 in 1985 and as old as 43 today.

Another comment in this Talk page asks if she was born in 1968. He or she doesn't give any reference for that date of birth, but it's entirely possible, and would have made her only 17 when the band's first single was released. If that's the case, she could easily be as old as 45.

Of course, all this doesn't take in to account the very real possibility that she did not join the band straight after leaving home. The article states that she lived on the streets for a time, and eventually with a "community of lesbians and artists". What if she didn't join the band until after she gained stable housing? How long did that take? Weeks? Months? Years? What if she was 19, 20, or 21 when she joined Bob's Your Uncle? If she was 20 in 1985, she would have been born in 1965. That would mean she is scheduled to turn 48 this year. And, truthfully, she could be even older. It's not unreasonable to assume some time passed between leaving home and becoming a professional musician, nor is it unreasonable for her to have been working at it for a few years before getting a recording contract. That being said, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that she was in her mid twenties in 1985, making her possibly as old as 53.

So why be so coy about her age? If you were a women in your early fifties and working in television, wouldn't it be to your benefit for the world to think you were fifteen or twenty years younger than you actually were?

I suggest the evidence leads to an age range of 39-49 being much more appropriate than 26-37. It's a simple question of reading her biographical data and crunching the numbers on a calculator. And considering that the link to the article from which the 26-37 age range was gleaned is now dead, it really should be removed. Lunarmovements (talk) 23:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB has her listed as born 1966. There are two other sources that give a full DOB in 1966. I've added it to the page a couple of times, but one user keeps removing it. That user only edits this page, so I suspect it's someone close to her. I've left it off because they're not really reliable sources. jthillik (talk) 22:19, 3 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chester Brown[edit]

This page is linked to Chester Brown but does not so why anywhere. How do we do that and also meet BLP policy? I Never Liked You by Brown is dedicated to her, and indicates that they dated from 1992 to 1996. tahc chat 03:45, 11 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed, it's very weird that she is a non-trivial person in both Chester Brown and Paying For It, including possibly being involved in an adaptation, and yet there is no reference to either in this article. While I can't find the policy ATM, usually a template is not used on a page if the subject isn't covered on it. There is no mention of Brown on this page, but most personal details here are well sourced. On Brown's page, she is mentioned in two sections, but without any sources to back that up whatsoever. If adding their relationship here, it should be well-sourced (and perhaps such sources can be found to support inclusion at Brown's article). Echoedmyron (talk) 11:39, 1 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
