Whilst North American strains of E. coli O157:H7 are considered to be uniformly sorbitol non-fermenting, this is not true of many of the O157 strains found in other countries such as Germany. In that country the value of sorbitol MacConkey is diminished. Microbiologists need to be aware that pathogenic E. coli O157 strains may ferment sorbitol- or indeed, may be serotypes other than O157 121.218.199.247 (talk) 10:57, 17 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
