Banned?[edit]

@The C of E: is the South Africa Red Ensign banned in South Africa? or is the 1928–1994 flag the only former South African flag banned in that country? ColorfulSmoke (talk) 14:09, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@ColorfulSmoke: As far as I was aware, it was not. I know the Oranje, blange, blou is currently banned pending the court decision but I hadn't seen anything saying the red ensign was. The C of E God Save the Queen! (talk) 16:42, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The court ruling which (semi-)banned the 1928 flag applies only to "the old national flag of South Africa, introduced from 31 May 1928, and used throughout apartheid until it was abolished on 27 April 1994". The reasoning is based on the widely-known status of the flag as a symbol of apartheid. The red ensign might be thought of as a symbol of colonialism, but I don't think anyone outside the world of vexillology is even aware of it. - htonl (talk) 09:20, 4 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
