Proposal of article name change

[edit]

I propose to change the article name to Indians in Philippines, Indo-Filipinos or South Asians in Philippines, the same as the other articles at {{NRI-PIO}}, to include also the NRI. Desiphral-देसीफ्राल 14:55, 29 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why? Those names just add ambiguity to the title. It is currently so simple, Filipinos of Indian descent! If anything, other titles should be more brought in line with this one --Hayden5650 11:29, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This user is a known vandal with racist views, who now is stalking me (see Talk:Romani_people#New_block_for_Hayden5650), that's the reason for this comment. Desiphral-देसीफ्राल 12:28, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Desiphral is Roma, I am White. She is part of a minority, me the majority. Therefore I am racist. --Hayden5650 12:46, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Whether or not Hayden5650 is a racist and/or a stalker is irrelevant. This article is about Filipinos of Indian descent and race has nothing to do with it. —Lagalag 09:21, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Regarding the last move of Lagalag, the current article, as the other articles about the Desi diaspora deals with all the South Asians/Desis, be they or not Philippine citizens (for example the Bumbay term). In this sense, the contemporary names South Asian/Desi are the meaningful terms aplliable. This is the reason. About Hayden, that is why this user comment is irrelevant, it does not bring any reason either (btw, now this user is banned). Desiphral-देसीफ्राल 09:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again to Lagalang, you can't modify wiki articles just because you wish so. Do you have any reasons? I suppose you know if you do it again you're under 3RR. The article deals with Filipinos of Indian descent, like the descendents of the Sepoys, but also with the rest of the South Asians/Desis living in Philippines, both NRI and PIO (everywhere they are considered together). Also the scope is not limited to India. The Sindhis are mostly from Pakistan, Punjabis from both India and Pakistan, Tamils from both India and Sri Lanka. The Population figure

[edit]

The population figure in the infobox is being ping-ponged between 38,000 and 78,000, mostly by anonymous users not logged in with a wikipedia username. I'm not sure whether this is repeated childish vandalism or if the anonymous ping-pongers actually think that they have some good reason to believe that the numbers they are ping-ponging to are correct.

The supporting source currently cited for the population figure is http://indiandiaspora.nic.in/diasporapdf/chapter20.pdf -- table 20.1 of which says the following about the Philippines:

Table 20.1: The Indian Diaspora in the countries covered in this chapter
Country Population NRIs PIOs Stateless % of the Population
Philippines 76,000,000 2,000 24,000 12,000 Negligible

I'm not really sure what an NRI or a PIO might be, but I observe that 2,000+24,000+12,000=38,000.

Can the anonymous ping-ponger who favors the number 78,000 please supply a supporting source3 for that number? -- Boracay Bill (talk) 00:01, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
