Origin of the name?[edit]

What is the actual origin of the name? The section was misleadingly named in that it only explains the method in which it was selected, but not its origins. Obviously it's a play on "defenders" but what does the word "fender" have to do with it? Maybe if it was the Detroit Pistons' affiliate it would be an obvious car-related wordplay, but I don't see what that has to do with the Lakers or Los Angeles. Any sources that actually point to the origin of the name would be a great addition to the article. JesseRafe (talk) 15:38, 8 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
